To enhance local dev’t: Tubah Council secures 317 MFCFA MINEPAT funding.

Tubah Mayor, Tanjong Martin, signed the agreement with Minister Ousmane Mey, during a ceremony in Yaounde on Thursday February 29.
Speaking to The Guardian Post yesterday, the municipal authority said the funding will help the council in rehabilitation of some portions of roads in the municipality, using the Labour Intensive Approach known by the acronym HIMO. 
With the funding, he said the council will pave some four portions of roads measuring 1.6km around the University of Bamenda, Uba, with ecological bricks.
“There are some roads around the University that are very impassable. We are going to pave them with ecological pavement bricks. These are bricks produced out of plastic waste. You know Tubah is one of the Councils recycling plastic waste, second after Dschang Council in Cameroon…,” he explained. 
The mayor further stated that the envisaged project will not only help in technology transfer but also help locals who will be recruited to earn some money to cater for their needs.
“…this work has to be done using local materials. The main purpose is to reduce unemployment and permit the population to participate in local development,” Tanjong said.
The funding, the mayor further noted, “means a lot to us”. He said it will “help provide opportunities to those who are going to work on this project to earn some income which can enable them start small businesses and change the lives of so many people in the municipality”.
Going by the Tubah Mayor, not only young people will have the opportunity to be recruited for the project.
“It not only about the youth, women and elderly can also work on the project. Just carrying water to bring to the project site or transporting stones, that’s work,” Tanjong stated.

Tubah, six other councils share 2.2 billion FCFA
Tubah Council, it should be said, is the lone Council from the North West and South West Regions to benefit funding from Labour Intensive Approach projects, among seven other councils chosen by the ministry in the country this year. 
The other beneficiary Councils include Fokoue in the West Region, Kribi I in the South Region, Nkongsamba II in the Littoral Region, Ngaoundere III in the Adamawa Region, Nitoukou in the Centre Region and Touroua in the North Region.
The mayors of the seven Councils signed the agreements with the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, MINEPAT, Alamine Ousmane Mey.
This was in the presence of the presence of the Director of the International Labour Office in Cameroon.
The signed agreements permit for the rehabilitation and maintenance of earth roads, as well as the construction of social housing and shops in the concerned municipalities. 
Speaking during the signing of the agreements, Minister Alamine Mey, said: “The signing of these conventions is part of the national dynamic, under the very strong leadership of the Head of State, H.E Paul Biya, in favour of virtuous decentralisation for a prosperous future”. 
He said it is the realisation of one of the orientations of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030, SND30, namely “the systematisation of the HIMO approach with the dual objective of developing infrastructure and generating temporary income for poor households”.
The MINEPAT boss invited the beneficiary Councils to ensure close collaboration with the HIMO Technical Unit, which has within it, representatives of the Ministries of Vocational Training, Public Works and Urban Development
It should be noted that the use of labour intensive approaches for the construction of basic infrastructure constitutes a strong option of government, contained in its legal instruments.
