Two suspects arrested for kidnap, rape in Douala.

The prime suspect, Messina Franky, 21, and his supposed accomplice, Kamga Feussi Jordan, 23, were presented to the press on Wednesday February 28.

Recounting the circumstances that led to the arrests, the Head of Criminal Investigations Unit at the Littoral Regional Division of the Judicial Police, Superintendent of Police Essono Edou Arsène Gerard, said the victim was sent by her aunt on February 13, to buy food stuff around the Ndokoti Market in the Douala III Subdivision

The officer added that while there, she was threatened by a young man with a dagger who compelled her to follow him. 

The suspect, the officer added, then took the victim to a house in the Ndogsimbi neighbourhood where she was on several occasions, raped and sodomised by her kidnapper. 

The same kidnapper, the Essono Edou added, demanded a ransom of 2 million FCFA that he unfortunately did not succeed to obtain given, that the girl succeeded to escape. 

Following the incident, her family is said to have deposited a complaint at the Judicial Police in Bonanjo.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police opened investigations and went on to arrest the prime suspect, Messina Franky, and his accomplice who was found in possession of the dagger.

Messina Franky on the day of their presentation to the press, admitted to have committed the act. The suspect said he acted under the influence of drugs, confessing that he had consumed Indian hemp. 

Messina revealed that the girl spent four days with him at his grandmother’s house but later fled when she discovered a knife in the house. 

“She saw the knife and took fear but I assured her not to be scared since it was a girl I had sometimes seen around the area and I really liked her,” he said.

“I know I committed an error; I even dragged my friend to it, he knows nothing about it, I only told the police…he has never seen the girl. This is the first time I'm making such a mistake, maybe it's because I had smoked Indian hemp,” he added. 

His suspected accomplice and childhood friend, 23-year-old Kamga Feussi Jordan, insisted he is innocent of all charges and sees the happenings as a sort of ill luck.

“I was not even around, I had travelled to Loum the weekend before for a funeral when my friend texted me asking where I was and when I came back. He came to our house, gave me knife to keep and that he will collect latter, I resisted but after sometime I took it and kept. The other day I was at home sleeping with my poor mother, when the police came and took me, I don't know if I should call this ill luck or…” Kamga said sorrowfully. 

Essono Edou said the duo will be presented to the State prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Ndokoti on charges of kidnapping, sequestration and rape.
