Zofoa Njoya wins Best ELECAM Regional Delegate prize.

The North West Regional Delegate of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Zofoa Njoya, has been recognised for being the most resilient and most committed Regional Delegate of the elections management body for the year 2023.

He was declared winner of the prize during the 20th edition of the National Press Awards of Excellence. The award is an initiative of Watchdog Tribune Media Group.



The award, organisers said, comes in to compliment Zofoa Njoya’s high spirit of patriotism, immeasurable strides and commitment in upholding the image of ELECAM.

The organisers said it is also in recognition of his efforts to improve voters registration in the restive North West Region.

 

Zofoa Njoya & landmark strides

Zofoa Njoya, it should be said, has been into elections management since 2004. He worked previously with the now defunct National Election Observatory, NEO. 

In the 2004 presidential elections, Zofoa Njoya was the president of NEO for Babessi Subdivision. 

He occupied same position in Babessi Subdivision during the municipal elections of 2007. 

In 2010, he was recruited as a kit operator in ELECAM in Babessi Subdivision in Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region where he worked for close to five years.

In 2016, Zofoa Njoya was appointed as the Communal Branch Head, CBH, of Ako Subdivision in Donga Mantung Division. 

With all the skills from NEO and experience gathered from ELECAM for 11 years, Zofoa Njoya was then appointed the North West Regional Delegate of ELECAM.

Zofoa Njoya input and tact the helm of ELECAM North West has seen voter registration statistics improved considerably. 

Such, those who know Zofoa Njoya attest, is thanks to strategies he came up with on how to woo a huge number of potential voters to register on the electoral register.      

Before coming to office, the North West Region in 2021 registered a total number of 3,564 voters. 

But since taking over ELECAM North West in 2022, the statistics have skyrocketed with a total registration of 10,588. In 2023, the region registered 18,176 voters. 

ELECAM North West Region has, under the directives of Zofoa Njoya, been exploiting all possible avenues, braving the odds and intimidation from separatist fighters to sensitise and register potential voters.

According to the North West ELECAM boss, as of February 2024, all the seven Divisional Headquarters and the 34 Subdivisional branches are open for the registration of voters.

Zofoa dedicates award to institution

Upon receiving the award in Bafoussam, the North West Regional Delegate of ELECAM, said the prize was a win for the entire ELECAM family.

"The Watchdog Award as Cameroon Best North West Regional Delegate of ELECAM is not for Zofoa Njoya as the laureate but for the whole institution. We use this opportunity to appreciate the Watchdog Tribune for observing that ELECAM North West Region contributes to nation building and for peace to return to the region," Zofoa said. 

 

Plans to do more

He assured that the award will not make him and his team to go to sleep but to instead redouble efforts aimed at getting the population of the region massive enroll on the electoral register.

"Hoping that we don’t sleep on our laurels, our 2024 target will be realised at 100%. Voter registration kickstarted in all 34 Council Branches of the North West Region on January 1, 2024, as per section 74 (2) of the Electoral Code,” he stated. 

As of February 17, 2024, the ELECAM North West boss said a total of 6,466 voters had been registered. This, he said, includes 3,616 males and 2,850 females. 

Zofoa Njoya challenged the population of the North West Region to enroll on the electoral list to be able to vote and choose their leaders.

He thanked his hierarchy, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe, and the Director General of Elections at ELECAM, Dr Essousse Erik, for always giving him and his team constant support and trust.
