The Guardian Post wins MINFI's Best Economic Reporting Award.

The prestigious award was handed to the first-ever English language daily newspaper in the country, Thursday February 15. 

This was during a dinner on the sidelines of a meeting the Ministry of Finance had with economic stakeholders in Douala. 

The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, presided over the event. It focused on presenting the financing plans of the State for the current fiscal year. 

It was attended by bank experts, brokers and jobbers in the stock exchange markets and private investors amongst other financial institutions.

The Littoral Bureau Chief of The Guardian Post, Elizabeth BanyiTabi, received the award on behalf of the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Ngah Christian Mbipgo. 

The award from MINFI adds to the lavish trophy cabinet of the most authoritative, most credible, most popular and most regularly published newspaper and tower of journalism excellence within the CEMAC Subregion and beyond. 

Award to institutions 

The high point of the ceremony was awards handed to some financial institutions, insurance companies and media organs, which, in the course of the year 2023, accompanied the ministry graciously in achieving its set goals. 

It is on this basis that MINFI officials singled out three media organs for their role of the media in galvanising information on economic issues. 

While presenting the award for media category, the Director of Treasury at the Ministry of Finance, Tella Samuel, said: "A lot of newspapers do write economy, but these ones are best in reporting economic news”. 

“…when you read their stories, they have all the criteria of good news articles,” Tella added. 

The Guardian Post newspaper, it should be said, was recognised alongside French economy inclined print media organ, EcoMatin, and online media organ, ‘Investir au Cameroun’. 

Publisher/Editor-in-Chief hails MINFI

Speaking after learning of the recognition, The Guardian Post Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Ngah Kristian Mbipgo, thanked the Ministry of Finance for the distinction.

He dedicated the award to the crack team of The Guardian Post for their commitment to continue serving the newspaper’s teeming readers with impeccable stories. 

“The award from MINFI is an indication that economic stakeholders in this country recognise what we do. The award means we should not relent but continue to do more,” Ngah said.

“We are ready to continue giving our teeming readers, committed advertisers and other well-wishers the best quality in print journalism not only on economic issues both from all sectors of life,” Ngah promised.
