At 2023 Ordinary General Assembly: Cameroon National Youth Council recommits to sensitise, empower youth on nation building.

The President of Cameroon National Youth Council, Fadimatou Iyawa, made the disclosure in Yaounde Thursday February 8. She was speaking to reporters at the end of the 2023 Ordinary General Assembly of the CNYC. 

It brought together representatives CNYC from all regions of the country. Focus was on analysing, auditing and evaluating activities which were carried out in 2023 so as to better chart a plan of action for 2024.

Speaking to reporters after the 2023 Ordinary General Assembly, Fadimatou Iyawa said the CNYC is working in line with the “continuity in action” slogan of its fourth mandate. 

She said through actions, the CNYC will implement various activities at the grassroots and urban levels in the country and also in the diaspora. 

Fadimatou Iyawa said the CNYC will work hand in glove with all categories of young people to “leave no one behind”.

Harping further on CNYC plan of action, Fadimatou Iyawa, said: “We are going to sensitise and empower young people in various domains; notably in the contributions of young people for the construction and peace building in Cameroon”. 

She said they will also work on empowering young people with skills to “fight against social scourges in youth milieu”.

Fadimatou Iyawa said the Cameroon National Youth Council will also work to promote entrepreneurship through the creation of more job opportunities in favour of young people as well as the reinforcement of the educational background of youth. 

She said they will equally work on the health and wellbeing of young people in the various regions and in the diaspora in collaboration with the government and development partners as well as the support of civil society organisations. 

On his part, President of the General Assembly of CNYC, Melvin Songwa Shuye, said he will do his utmost to ensure that the laws of the council are respected. 

Youth drilled on nation building 

The CNYC, it should be said, has, ahead of the 58th edition of the Youth Day, organised a three-day Youth Camp aimed at sensiting young people on nation building, fight against social ills, creation of job opportunities, and the re-enforcement of education to the youth.

The Youth Camp in Yaounde was organised in collaboration with the International Youth Fellowship, IYF. 

The Youth Camp had activities which enabled youth to showcase their talents in through arts and craft, exhibition of natural products, handmade designed and modeled equipment by the youth.

It also featured display of different cultural events including singing and dancing of youths representing the different regions of the country.
