To foster quality human resource, sustainable dev't: NW Regional Assembly, University of Bamenda sign MoU.

Exchange of MoU signing between both parties

Quality human resource and sustainable development is expected to take a forward leap in the North West Region, in the nearest future. This is thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed between the North West Regional Assembly and the University of Bamenda, UBa.



The MoU was signed Thursday January 18. The President of the North West Regional Executive Council, Prof Fru Angwafo III, signed for the institution he heads, while the Vice Chancellor of UBa, Prof Theresia Nkuo-Akenji, signed on behalf of the higher institution of learning.  

The MoU, which is aimed at driving development in the North West Region, will go a long way to advance the digital systems, boost entrepreneurial sector, fight climate change and others.

The signing ceremony took place in Bamenda in the presence of the Secretary General at the North West Governor's Office, Bassilekin Georges, who represented the Governor. 

Also present were delegations from both institutions. Accompanying the UBa Vice Chancellor at the signing ceremony were the Deputy Vice Chancellors, the Registrar, Directors and others. 

Meanwhile, on the side of the North West Regional Assembly were the Secretaries, Commissioners and other personalities.

According to the North West Regional Assembly President, Prof Fru Angwafo III, the MoU is a bold step by both institutions to kick-start reforms and also to serve the Region.

"We are now taking ownership of our lives as a Region. We now have people who have the expertise, not only to teach and do research, but to put the pieces of this puzzle together, which is a call development," Prof Fru Angwafo III said.

For her part, the Vice Chancellor of UBa, Prof Theresia Nkuo-Akenji, explained that the MoU will be beneficial to both learners and staff of her institution, because it will give room for internship placements, and research for them to blend theory with practical.

"We are looking at an MoU that addresses not only the learners, but also the staff, because they both comprise the human resource of the University of Bamenda. The North West Regional Assembly is like a catalyst for projects in the Region. UBa has the human resource, manpower and research and it drives innovative development," Prof Theresia Nkuo-Akenji said.

The issue of financial constraints was mentioned as a hindrance to development. It was also revealed that both institutions will take advantage of the MoU to write competitive projects in order to win not only national, but international grants to foster development in the Region.
