ELECAM Board reviews institution’s budget, strategises for future elections.

Dr Enow Abrams Egbe speaking during session

Members of the electoral board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, have evaluated and reviewed the institution’s budget for 2024 as well as mapped out strategies for the organisation of future elections in the country.

This was during the fourth Ordinary Session of the Electoral Board for the year 2023 that held recently at the ELECAM’s head office in Yaounde.
The session was opened by the Chairperson of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe.
In his opening remark, he noted that the session was a moment for them to deliberate, review and approve of the repartition of ELECAM’s budget and the special appropriation of the Electoral Board, with regards to the roadmap for the 2024 financial year.
“We shall deliberate and agree on the terms of reference for our next field trip, to supervise the launching of the 2024 annual revision of electoral registers, due to resume on January 1st, as prescribed under Section 74 Sub-2 of the Electoral  Code,” Dr Enow Abrams stated.

Putting in place of a Strategic Plan to guide works
ELECAM, he said, has been working year after year to improve its internal policies and operational means of action, with the aim of enhancing the credibility of the national democracy-building process, thus the need for a Strategic Plan to guide the institution meets it target.
“…In view of the many electoral challenges on the horizon, the growing enthusiasm of political parties over the mobilisation of civil society in recent months, the adoption of a Strategic Plan comes at just the right time to restructure our roadmap, reorient our strategic and operational objectives…,” Dr Enow Abrams added.
The Strategic Plan, he underscored, is a strategic steering and evaluation tool developed on the basis of lessons learned from past experience.
This, he said, should enable their institution to strengthen and consolidate its political and democratic gains, in order to keep pace with the real and growing aspirations of those involved in the electoral process.
According to Dr Enow Abrams, given that the challenges of democratic governance are many and varied, it was therefore important to take into account the context and strategise to address potential endogenous and exogenous obstacles.
He underlined that they have structured their Strategic Plan around 11 essential pillars, some of which are; to increase the Electoral Council's strategic monitoring, control and Supervision of the Electoral Council, and to strengthen with key players and partners both national and international, develop/implement innovative electoral tools and resources to ensure the success of the next elections, create working conditions conducive to improved performance and staff satisfaction.
He also mentioned they will guarantee the financial viability of the institution through the rational use of resources as well as optimise electoral communication and awareness-raising to increase stakeholder commitment.
He equally called on the members to see into the rigorous monitoring of the planned activities and performance indicators set out in this strategic document.
