At confab to tackle corruption: Bar president weeps for Cameroon’s justice system.

This was during a roundtable conference organised by the Bar Association’s Commission for the Fight against Corruption.
This was in the presence of the representative of the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seal. Also in attendance were diplomats and former Bar Association Presidents and international anti-corruption lawyer, Barrister Akere Muna.
According to Barrister Mbah Eric, the nation’s justice system is bedeviled by corruption, which must be arrested before the situation goes out of hand.
Barrister Mbah Eric cited the recent controversy surrounding alleged bail granted to suspects in the Martinez Zogo affair. The Bar Association boss disclosed that he petitioned the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo. The petition, he said, was to draw his attention to the fact that there was “something incurable wrong and strange”.
The Bar Association President remarked that: “I was baffled that an examining magistrate is alleged to have sent out a court ruling, thereafter in less than 24 hours, he sends out a correspondence saying that rolling is not authentic. There is proof that that ruling was served by a registrar of his court. Something is wrong and we are not interested in the content of the ruling”.

Justice system put to question
The Bar president also told reporters that the incident surrounding the bail for suspects of the Martinez Zogo affair has put the justice system to question. 
“We don’t care whether the people merited bail or not. What we are saying is that the entire justice system of this country has been put to question by that decision,” he added.
He enthused that: “We expect the military justice system to come out and clear the air so the population can know what actually happened and let somebody be held responsible for it”.
The Bar President further lamented that, there are other scandals in recent times that have tainted the image of the country.  
“Á week ago it was the National Assembly where it was read on national radio that someone had been replaced and the Speaker of the National Assembly wrote saying the release was fake…until this moment, no investigations have been done,” Barrister  Mbah Eric lamented.
The population, Barrister Mbah Eric regretted, cannot be treated like “guinea pigs in the open and yet no one comes to explain things to them”.
During the meeting, the Bar Commission for the Fight against Corruption said hundreds of billions of FCFA have been lost to corruption. Lawyers said the consequence is under-development for the entire nation.
According to Barrister Mbah Eric: “You hear reports of 400 and plus billion FCFA. Those are amounts that can help build hospitals, equip good universities and schools for our children for the country,” but lamented that, things seem to be going out of hand.
