National language broadcasters in the North West Region, have been schooled on the mission, functioning and role of the Public Independent Conciliator, PIC, in the Region.

This was during a one-day information and education seminar that held Friday December 8, in Bamenda.
The seminar was chaired by the Public Independent Conciliator, Tamfu Simon Fai.
According to the Public Independent Conciliator, the aim of the seminar was not only to educate national language broadcasters on the role and mission of the institution, but also to lay down a foundation of collaboration with them in order to better serve the population.
"Our expectation is that at the end of the workshop, you understand the mission, functioning and role of the Public Independent Conciliator and kindle a more constructive cooperation and collaboration between you and broadcasters and the office of the North West Public Independent Conciliator," Tamfu Fai said.
Participants were also schooled on the important role national language broadcasters play in the enforcement of ethical values, respect of rights and freedoms, prevention of discrimination and the enforcement of duties and obligations in the relationships between councils, their users and the population.

At the end of the event, participants promised to work together with the office of the Public Independent Conciliator in order to effectively carry out their duties.
According to Barrister Munjum Hellen, a national language broadcaster in Mankon, she is now well equipped with the necessary information that her community is in need of.
"Information is power. I have gotten the information that I have to relay to my people. I will gather other language broadcasters over the various media so that we can sit together and improve on our duties. By next year, things are not going to be the same again," Munjum Hellen said.
