MTN Cameroon CEO, Mitwa Ng’ambi delivering lecture

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of telecoms company, MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng’ambi, has drilled over 600 women leaders and aspirants in the corporate world, on how to navigate through leadership in a male dominant society.

This was during the 8th edition of the Corporate Women in Leadership Summit 2023. It took place in Douala, Littoral Region.

This year’s edition of the Summit held under the theme: “Alpha Women: Cracking the leadership code”.

Going by the founder and organiser of the summit, Adeline Sede Kamga, the gathering is a platform where fellow women in the sisterhood can share leadership secrets among themselves.

Kamga said: “We operate in places where succeeding for a woman is very difficult. The number of women in leadership positions is still insignificant. The godfather syndrome is dominant but we have women who are breaking barriers regardless”.

While dishing out inspirational notes to attendees, Mitwa Ng’ambi, shared five lessons she dubbed “PEARL” on how women can embrace their leadership roles.

The acronym, she said, stands for presentation on Purpose, Energy, Authenticity-Reading, Learning.

She said the role of every woman is as precious as pearl. The MTN boss said she doesn’t agree with the popular thinking that a woman is a woman’s enemy.

To her, women in corporate leadership should lean on each other’s shoulders to grow.

“They say the enemy of a woman is another woman. I do not agree with this statement, and I am convinced that for women to be successful in the corporate world, we must be one another’s cheer leader,” Mitwa declared.

The MTN Cameroon CEO called on the women to know their purposes and be true to who they are. Women, she enthused, are built naturally to be diligent, authentic.

Drawing inspiration from her 10 years of experience as a Corporate Executive Officer, Mitwa prescribed the need for women to inculcate the spirit of positive energy in order to continue sailing despite challenges.

She equally noted that a successful team cannot be positive with a negative leader.

“As a leader, the amount of energy you carry along, shall determine the end result,” the MTN boss underscored.

This, she explained, is because the complexity of the society, places a warranty for leaders to always understand what their purpose in the community is as well as staying authentic as women leaders.

As technology evolves, she said there is the dire need to adopt the culture of reading and research.

She drilled the women to understand that there are times they will be tasked to stand for the team when turbulence arises.

She urged participants to reduce the time spent on social media to focus on developing their capacities through reading books on leadership and other fruitful issues.

Her role as an executive officer within the MTN Group, Mitwa said, has not been without challenges.

Overcoming the obstacles, she indicated comes with a mindset that is always prepared to face the odds.
