Mezam: Tubah Mayor cries for help as Bambili, Nkwen fight over land.

After hours of agitation and street protests in Bambili, the Mayor of Tubah council, Tanjong Martin, has called on the people in his municipality to calm down and wait on the State to address the land issue between Bambili and Nkwen villages.

Mayor Tanjong was speaking on Thursday November 23, in Bambili, after calming down the crowd of women and youth who were about launching another attack on the people of Nkwen.

"I have called for calm. We cannot sacrifice life for land. In the 21st century, we are still fighting, killing and destroying properties for land. I have called on my people to be called. Let's follow the law; we in Tubah believe in law and not aggression," Mayor Tanjong said.

The Mayor, who visited the scene, was together with the DO of Tubah, Massango Metouge Narcisse, on the street of Bambili.

"Let the state of Cameroon come in and give a final solution to this problem so that our people can live their lives happily. I am appealing that anybody who can help bring an end to this should do so as fast as possible so that people should go on with their daily lives," Tanjong added.

The Mayor also called on those who are burning houses and destroying properties at the scene to stop.

"If it is non-Bambili people burning these houses, we are calling for an immediate stop to this ill activity," Tanjong said.

It should be noted that on Thursday November 23, some houses belonging to inhabitants of Bambili, were reportedly set ablaze at the border land with Nkwen.

The people of Bambili mobilised themselves to avenge the act on grounds that the land belongs to them. Some of the angry youth told The Guardian Post that those who committed the atrocities were hired to do it. Some also told The Guardian Post that the people of Nkwen have been pushing them out in order to sell their lands.

The land is located around the Bamenda industrial zone, which borders Bambili, Bambui and Nkwen.

It is reported that the land crisis between Bambili and Nkwen, dates back several years.

No other authority has commented on the issue as at the time of this report.
