Suspected Amba fighters open fire on bar, kill at least four in Bamenda.

Nigerian movie star, Sylvester Madu, has cheated death in Bamenda, in the restive North West Region of the country.

This is after an armed attack on a popular drinking spot at Mile 3 Nkwen, Bamenda III Subdivision, suspected to have been perpetrated by Ambazonia fighters.

The attack occurred at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 25. It left at least four persons dead and huge material damage.

According to eyewitness accounts, the armed men were on a mission to kidnap the Nigerian Nollywood actor, who was in Bamenda to take part in the shooting of a movie titled Abakwa.

The Guardian Post gathered that in an attempt to fish out Sylvester Madu, who is popularly known as Shina Rambo, the gunmen randomly fired shots at the crowd that was having leisure with the movie star.

The gun firing resulted to the death of at least four persons, including a girl, who was having fun at the club. The Guardian Post learned that several others were also injured and rushed to health facilities in Bamenda.

We also gathered that it was only thanks to the quick intervention of security forces that the movie star was rescued and rushed to a safer place, where he spent the rest of the night.

A press release issued Sunday November 26 by DAMA Films, said four civilians were killed and about 10 others injured.

"DAMA Films received Nollywood actor, Sylvester Madu aka Shina Rambo, on Thursday the 23rd of November 2023, in Bamenda for a movie shoot advocating against hard drug addiction. While concluding the movie, we received an invite for a guest appearance at BIG G VIP, located at Mile 3 Nkwen. The snooker championship organised by Big G began at 3 pm. Everything went well with fans meeting Sylvester Madu. At past 10 p.m. we heard gunshots from outside, and many ran helter-skelter, leading to the death of four civilians and over 10 wounded. The police intervened securing the safety of the Nollywood actor, Sylvester Madu and dispersed the crowd," a section of the press release stated.

DAMA Films also said in the same press release that Sylvester Madu had already concluded his mission in Bamenda, adding that he is in good hands, as they look forward for his safe return to Nigeria.

A lot of material damage was also recorded in the course of the attack as all those who were drinking around the area ran for safety.

Shina Rambo's coming to Bamenda drew a lot of attention and excitement among the youth, who met with him on the streets for pictures. Many were still eager to meet and have good moments with him, but everything was cut short by the suspected fighters attack.

As at the time of this report, no official documents or statement were made to identify the deceased.

Before Saturday's incident, a Form Two female student, whose name The Guardian Post got as Nfi Louisa, was gunned down at the New Road neighbourhood on Friday night in Bamenda.

Reports say the girl was hit by a stray bullet when gunmen were trying to make away with her father's motorbike.

The recent killings come to incite more fear and panic on the population of Bamenda, who were already feeling a little bit of relieve from the over seven-year armed conflict.
