Restoring peace in Far North: French embassy arms police with equipment worth 117 MFCFA.

The equipment comprising 75 bullet vests, 75 helmets and six drones, were handed over by the Attaché of Internal Security at the French Embassy in Yaounde, Colonel Christian Broudin.

The Secretary General at the DGSN, Police Commissioner, Dominique Baya, received the equipment on behalf of police boss, Martin Mbarga Nguele. 

With the donation, Colonel Broudin said, the General Delegation for National Security, DGSN, will be able to equip 75 personnel. 

In addition to the equipment, the French official promised a training in 3D with drones for police officers. This, he said, will enable them anticipate in case of an enemy attack.

“We will conduct four training courses for drone operators over the next years in ways on which the police officers can use this equipment quite calmly with lots of application,” Colonel Broudin said.

He explained that the equipment donated were “individual protective equipment in the profile of the DGSN police officers, particularly in the Far North”. Both countries, he disclosed, have joint work going on in the same region.

Colonel Broudin explained that the materials of fourth class could stop 762 war weapons of nine millimeters per ambulant. He said the offer will help police officers work serenely in sensitive zones.

The helmets, Colonel Broudin said, are blended with bullet vests of nine millimeters of spreader which also prevents bullets from getting through, thereby protecting the police officers adequately and allowing them do their job well.

“This objective was already in view by the DGSN which absolutely wanted to equip these police officers to better protect them and ultimately serve their homeland and their populations even better,” Colonel Broudin reiterated.

The Secretary General of the DGSN, Police Commissioner, Dominique Baya, who received the equipment expressed gratitude to the French embassy. 

The donation, Commissioner Baya remarked, symbolizes the excellence in security cooperation between the French and Cameroonian Police. 

“Individual security in Cameroon at the moment like other countries are confronted with the emergence of new criminal phenomena in urban areas,” the DGSN scribe lamented.

He added that “criminal operators have changed their mode of operation and now use artisanal and conventional weapons to cause serious damage disturbing social peace”.

Baya further underscored that: “Aided by the proliferation and circulation of weapons and the inappropriate publication of certain criminal details in information technology and communication, criminals carry out with remarkable acts of banditry and terrorism which target security personnel”. 

He noted that there is need to constantly adapt response techniques and make available equipment that meets the security challenge. 

The protection and ballistic equipment offered, he said, perfectly fit into the logistic needs of the Cameroonian police.

The equipment, he also underscored, falls in line with President Paul Biya’s vision of modernising the police force. 

“The ballistic protection equipment provided to national security will undoubtedly strengthen the intervention capabilities of police units and their personnel,” the administrator said, adding that the donation will be put to good use.
