The Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, and its German partner, the Credit Institute for Reconstruction, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, KfW, have reviewed gains made in the implementation of the second phase of the project to develop secondary cities.

The evaluation was the focus of a ceremony Friday, November 17, at the head office of FEICOM in Yaounde.

The scheme is known as the Programme for the Economic and Social Development of Secondary Cities Exposed to Instability Factors, PRODESV. Focus was on the second phase already being implemented.

The mid-term evaluation meeting also focused on charting the way forward for the project. Officials during the meeting expressed satisfaction with the path covered in the implementation in the programme.

PRODESV II it was disclosed during the meeting, targets eight councils in the Littoral and West regions which have received huge number of displaced persons.

PRODESV aims to strengthen the capacity of secondary towns to cope with crises, welcome new arrivals and promote inclusive communal socio-economic development while respecting the environment, in order to help reinforce stability.

Reports presented by the team of consultants indicated that some satisfactory results at the level of demand and supply have been attained.

They also saluted the distribution of ideas which enabled FEICOM to advance in the implementation of the scheme.

Apart from supporting Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, the programme also supports councils to create projects and income-generating activities, based on an approach that integrates local entrepreneurship, vocational training and labour intensive work.

The programme implemented by FEICOM with financial support from KFW equally targets communities hosting refugees, as well as other migrants in Cameroon.
