At audience with PM Dion Ngute: Visiting World Bank Vice President pledges fresh support for gov’t’s dev’t goals.

The visiting World Bank Regional Vice President for Central and West Africa, Ousmane Diagana, has disclosed his institution is committed to accompany the government of Cameroon accomplish its development goals. 



He made the pledge during an audience granted him Monday November 20 by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute. 

His visit to Cameroon is part of a Subregional tour to reaffirm the institution’s commitment as well as explain its new strategic development vision announced last month in Marrakesh, Morocco. 

The audience with the Star Building occupant, serve as an opportunity for both officials to review the state of dealings between Yaounde and the World Bank.

The Mauritanian-born World Bank Regional Vice President for Central and West Africa also hailed the state of cooperation existing between his institution and the State of Cameroon.

“This morning also, I had the privilege to witness the signing of three financing agreements between the Director of Operations in Cameroon and the Minister in charge of the economy,” he said.

The three agreements, the World Bank official said, totals 930 million US dollars and covers the “energy, transport sectors and decentralisation agenda, which is extremely important to make sure that people have access to services that community could be more resilient.”

PM Dion Ngute used the audience to brief the visiting World Bank official on current realities of the country. 

“I was very pleased to meet with the Prime Minister, who has taken the time to update me on what is happening in the country on the economic, political and social fronts,” he said. 

The World Bank Vice President for West and Central Africa, said he was pleased after being briefed by the Prime Minister to realised that since his last visit in 2022, “things are improving”.

“I think this is fundamental to strengthening the content of our partnership with Cameroon, which in terms of size is very big. As we speak, we have a portfolio composed of different programmes in different sectors worth 4.2 billion US dollars,” he said. 

During the meeting, the World Bank official and the Prime Minister, Head of Government, were undisputed that it is imperative to keep the impetus between Cameroon and the World Bank move forward for a win-win partnership.
