At presentation of ASCIP trophy won by corporation: CSPH GM challenges staff to consolidate strides to meet consumers’ demand.

Okie made the call in Yaounde Monday, November 13, during a ceremony to officially present the 2023 winners’ trophy of the Association of Petroleum Companies, ASCIP, competition won by the CSPH last weekend. 

The institution got the distinction after its men’s football team beat giants, SCTM 1 nil in Douala in the final of the 2023 tournament last Saturday. 

The win marked CSPH’s first-ever in the 40-year history of the competition organised by the ASCIP.

The CSPH General Manager, Okie Johnson Ndoh, in a statement at the presentation ceremony, described success as evidence of the fighting spirit and the winning culture cultivated at the corporation. 

He enjoined the staff to use the achievement as a new motivating factor in their bid to ensure a continuous and selfless delivery of their services in the oil and gas sector through the effective management of the occasional challenges faced by the institution. 

“It’s a feeling of satisfaction and victory that we have been able to demonstrate this success that the Lord has permitted us to have. We are one of the leads in the downstream in the petroleum sector and are very happy to see this symbolic distinction coming home,” the General Manager said.

“We started this competition with a defeat but the team spirit and the determination of our workers; which is a reflection of what we have as a policy in the house, gave them the determination to keep fighting and to say ‘yes we can make it even during difficult times at the line of our work at the corporation,” he added.

Use trophy as driving force to stabilize oil, gas sector 

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Okie Johnson urged CSPH staff to use the institution’s resilience and dedication highlighted in its unquenching quest to grab the ASCIP trophy as a perfect driving factor in their bid towards shaping the country’s stabilisation in the oil and gas sector. 

“This is a very proud moment. We feel very satisfied bringing this trophy to the CSPH. It’s been 15 years since CSPH began chasing this very important trophy. The victory goes beyond the football game. Football is just a part of the several activities that we have for the staff. And the win should serve as a reminder for us to push those efforts to the work we are doing,” the GM emphasised.

That energy, Okie said, should be sufficient to successfully accompany the corporation in ensuring a hitch-free celebration of upcoming end-of-year festivities nationwide. 

Attaining the institution’s goal for continuous success notably by ensuring a steady and affordable supply of petroleum products sustainably in the long-term, the GM said, should also be inspired by the ASCIP success. 

“This exploit of victory and knowing how to win represents the politics of this house through the personnel. This success is going to accompany us to more successes as we work hard to address the few challenges that we are having,” he said.

“The supply of gas has been stable for a long time now. That is thanks to the work put in by us here at HPSF and that has just been reflected again through this success at the level of football. Football is a part of HPSF and we hope to find a solution in every difficult moment like we did in football,” Okie added.

Staff pledge continuous service delivery

Speaking in separate interviews at the end of the presentation ceremony, the staff of the CSPH promised to continue giving their best to ensure the corporation’s performance meets its full potential.

Senior staff including the Head of Social and Health Affairs, Enini Angeline, and the President of the CSPH’s Sports Association, Waziri Hassan, all said they will continue working hard to ensure the successes recorded in the ASCIP event are further translated at the level of their work. 

Victory evidence of CSPH’s dedication, resilience 

The 2023 winners’ trophy in the ASCIP trophy came after 15 failed attempts by the CSPH in the competition. 

The institution reached the final of the 40-year-old competition in 2012 but had its efforts wasted following a disappointing defeat in the decisive final game. 

Since the 2012 final loss, the institution had several difficult moments in the competition with the organ notably having its campaigns in the last years abruptly ended at the quarterfinals and semifinals stages on multiple occasions. 

Despite the setbacks, CSPH which joined the ASCIP association almost two decades ago, remained steadfast and fully determined in getting the overall winners’ trophy.

The Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilisation Fund, CSPH, was created in 1974. Over the years, the structure has made remarkable strides in its mission despite challenges. 

CSPH has as main mission to regulate the price of hydrocarbons products nationwide, through partial or total support of the said products price increases, and according to its financial resources.

Also, CSPH participates in all operations aimed at controlling national energy policy through equity participation in the exploration, production, refining and distribution of oil products.

With the liberalisation of the downstream petroleum sector since 1998, CSPH ensures the regular supply of hydrocarbons products nationwide through regulation of stocks and prices. 

It also provides arbitration needed to maintain a healthy competition between operators in the sector. It also supports the protection of consumer through two mechanisms; stabilisation and equalisation.
