Le Jour journalist, Moise Moundi, dies.

The senior editorial staff member of French language daily newspaper, Le Jour, died in the early hours of Tuesday after a brief illness.

Moundi is reported to have slumped at his Carrefour Biyam-Assi residence in Yaounde. 

He was later rushed to the Emergency Unit of the Yaounde Central Hospital, where he succumbed to the cold hands of death.

It was not immediately disclosed what killed the renowned print media journalist, but there are reports Moise Moundi died after suffering cardiac arrest. 

Moise Moundi showed no signs of ill health Monday when he was last spotted on official assignment. 

Moundi was part of a group of newsmen who covered a special security evaluation meeting at the Ministry of Defence Monday.

His collaborators say Moundi was sound and hearty until his demise in the morning of yesterday. His sudden demise was first confirmed by his newsroom colleagues.

News of Moise Moundi’s death fell like bombshell and spread across social media platforms like wildfire.

Following the sad development, several journalists, home and abroad, took to social media platforms to pay him their last respects.

The Deputy Editor-in-Chief at French language daily newspaper, Mutations, Jean De Dieu Bidias, described Moundi’s departure as devastating.

He recalled that: “So, our crazy laughs two weeks ago over a drink, was your only goodbye!? You were a good person. Rest in peace dear friend. May God grant you to be with him”.

In a similar outing on Facebook late yesterday, Francophone web journalist and whistle-blower, Paul Chouta, described the late Moundi as a brilliant and daring journalist.

“The last time Moïse and I saw each other was in March 2023, at the Yaounde Military Court in connection with the Martinez Zogo trial. He was also investigating the story,” Chouta recounted. 

He added that: “This great Olympique Marseille supporter was a brilliant journalist, humble, sociable and hardworking. May your soul rest in peace”.

Moïse Moundi, a passionate sports reporter, worked previously with French language daily newspaper, Mutations, before quitting.

He was among the first reporters of French daily newspaper, Le Jour of Haman Mana. He joined the editorial team of the daily tabloid at its inception in 2007.

Moïse Moundi graduated from the Siantou University Institute of Yaounde, with a degree in Communication, majoring in journalism.

Moïse Moundi was well known in the corridors of the Ministry of Defense, where he was the official reporter assigned to cover events organised by the ministry. 

A native of Foumban in the Noun Division of the West Region, Moise Moundi, was known as a big fan and supporter of Olympique de Marseille football club in France.

His last post on his verified Facebook page was in support of Olympique Marseille Ligue 1 match against Lens.

Moise Moundi died at the prime of his journalism career. He leaves behind a wife and children to mourn him.
