Renowned Cameroonian entrepreneur, Steven Nbienou Kouadjo, has said he is committed to ensure social progress in the country. The acclaimed philanthropist and level-headed leader made the revelation on Sunday November 12.

This was after he made a huge donation to three orphanages; La Bonne Case orphanage at Zamengoe, Notre Dame de Misericorde and Saint Therese orphanage in Obili.

The donations consisted a huge consignment of basic foodstuffs including several bags of rice, vegetable oil, soap, salt as well as the sum of 10 million FCFA to each of the three orphanages.

The commendable and significant charitable initiative for orphaned children in the country, Steven Nbienou Kouadjo revealed during his visits, is intended to give hope and support for the future of these orphans.

The financial donation of 30 million FCFA is expected to be used to improve the overall living conditions of the children in these three orphanages.

Also, the supply of essential foodstuffs is aimed at ensuring adequate nutrition for the children. The tuition fees and other housing expenses of the children shall also be covered.

Speaking to the press after the day-long donation exercise to these three orphanages, Kouadjo underscored the importance of the exercise.

He disclosed that what observers have now described as an unprecedented individual philanthropic action, is intended to have a strong social impact.

He further revealed that his donation, which has become part and parcel of his life over the years, underlines his commitment in making the lives of the orphans better.

“I am very excited. It is a habit for me to make such gestures every six months. I derive a lot of joy taking such initiative. I know what it means to be an orphan. I know what it means not to have some of the beautiful things in life like even just a sweet. I always think of these children who do not have financial support. For me coming to their aid is a great thing. Each time we support these kids, I am thrilled and happy,” Kouadjo said.

The successful businessman also seized the occasion to urge his peers to emulate his examples. Kouadjo said they should cultivate the habit of helping the underprivileged, regardless of their social status.

He stressed that they must not have millions in their bank accounts to help children, adding that, through their actions, they will be contributing to making the world a better place to be for the less privileged kids.

Revisiting donations to orphanages

The donations made by Steven Nbienou Kouadjo to the three orphanages started at the La Bonne Case orphanage in Zamengoe, Lekie Division.

The orphanage is home to 16 children, including three educators. It was created in 2011 and has since served as a safe haven for kids who had lost one or both of their parents.

Steven Nbienou Kouadjo and his delegation were heartily welcomed as the kids thrilled them with songs. Kouadjo said he came bearing treats for the kids and some early Christmas presents.

He told them that he understood their plight and promised to assist them. He, however, enjoined them to be of responsible behaviour and study hard in school to obtain good results.

Reacting to the donations, the Coordinator of La Bonne Case Orphanage, Egho Hostencia Mirriam, extended the institution’s appreciation for the massive support.

Egho disclosed that the material and financial support will help them address some of the challenges they have been facing at the orphanage.

“It is with a joyful heart, on behalf of the children and educators of La Bonne Case orphanage, that we say a big thank you for thinking about the kids and providing for them. We are so excited. We were not expecting this much, but he has done much more. We pray that God blesses him and replenishes a thousand fold,” Egho said.

She went further to reveal that: “This support will go a long way to help so much because we have tried to enrol the children in school. We have been struggling to complete their fees. Also, you cannot learn with an empty stomach. When they come back from school, they would be able to have something to eat in order to have strength to study”.

One of the orphans at the La Bonne Case Orphanage, Wova Gaelle Eucharia, could not hide her joy as she exploded with happiness.

The 14-year-old Form Two student pointed out that the support from their benefactor, Steven Nbienou Kouadjo, will go a long way to improving their educational and social life.

“I am happy. May God multiply back to the donor so that he can also provide for other children who are in need. These donations are important for us because we will learn many more things. We will not be late for school, our fees will be paid in time and we will not be sent away for fees. Also, we will be able to feed well,” Wova told this reporter.

Kouadjo rescues orphans at Notre Dame de Misericorde

At the Notre Dame de Misericorde orphanage in the Yaounde VII Subdivision, Steven Nbienou Kouadjo made a similar donation, but with an added incentive.

Briefed on the plight of the orphanage, which had been battling with rents, Kouadjo announced the purchase of a 500 square metres of land. He also promised to take charge of their rents for a period of one year.

During that time, he said, he will erect a structure to host the 37 orphans on the land that had just been purchased not far from their current location. This, he explained, will serve as a permanent residence of the orphanage.

The proprietor of the facility, which started as a solidarity home in 1990 before it was officially transformed to an orphanage 2015, Sister Marie Louise Messina, was short of words. Messina said she was thrilled by the support to the orphanage, which came at a time when they were in dire need.

“I am so happy especially at a time when we were going through a lot with hunger and others. We were obliged to economise the little things we had to ensure that the kids eat and study well. It was not easy. We were already at the brink of starvation. But the Lord is good,” Messina said.

“The housing issue was a big concern to me and almost gave me a heart attack. At night, I kept asking myself where I was going to go with the kids. I was restless. I prayed to God and he has answered our prayers. I really did not know where to start from,” she added.

The last stop of Steven Nbienou Kouadjo and his team was at the Saint Therese orphanage in Obili.

According to the proprietor, Sister Anyouzoa Lodo Julienne, the visit of their august guest was a memorable day for the orphanage.

Sister Anyouzoa said they were touched by the generosity and kindness of Steven Nbienou Kouadjo. She admitted that there was no better time to show such love and support because they are facing a plethora of challenges.

The Saint Therese orphanage in Obili, we gathered, was created in 2007. It currently plays host to 45 kids amongst them Internally Displaced Persons, IDP’s from the North West and South West regions.
