National Assembly: Coup to unseat Cavaye’s Director of Cabinet flops!.

As at yesterday, the purported installation of Kamsouloum Elhadji Hachimi, as the new Director of Cabinet to the Rt Hon Cavaye Djribil, in replacement of Bourkar Abdourahim, turned out to be a fiasco. 

Boukar who had been running the show as Director of Cabinet for at least 20 years, is still in action. 

Even as parliament is in session, the long serving collaborator of the House Speaker is said to be going about his business with no new face in his position as many had expected.

Insiders at the National Assembly told The Guardian Post that what happened in the evening hours of last Friday; wherein a decision appointing a new Director of Cabinet to the National Assembly Speaker, that was read on state media, was a failed coup.

Drama at National Assembly

Authoritative sources have it that yesterday, some security operatives who showed up to oversee the transfer of power from Boukar to his purported successor, Kamsouloum, failed to deliver on their ‘assignment’.

Reports have it that Hon Cavaye, reportedly denied having appointed a new Director of Cabinet. The House Speaker, sources stated, went as far as calling top members of government to indicate that Boukar was still his Director of Cabinet.

As the drama unfolded, those who had hope for a new face to man the headman position of Director of Cabinet to the Speaker of the National Assembly, met a brick wall. 

It is even reported that a senior Gendarme officer who came close to arresting Boukar, buckled under pressure, given that the House Speaker reached out to higher quarters to restate his position as to who is who at his cabinet.

The successive twists of events over the weekend had left Cameroonians hoping to see what was going to transpire yesterday at the National Assembly. 

Instead of Boukar giving way, there was no change as per what had been read on the State media.

Shortly after Decision No. 2023/13/10/AP/AN appointing a new Director of Cabinet and Decision No. 2023/12/11/AP/AN, dated November 9, appointing a Private Secretary to Cavaye were read, Yaounde was thrown into storm. 

Beyond the purported replacement of Boukar, the second decision had named a certain Banki Tituleur, as Cavaye’s Private Secretary, in replacement of Djibrilla. That too failed to take effect yesterday.

A third document still bearing the seal of the House Speaker, was issued, indicating that no appointments had been made at the Cabinet of the Speaker of the National Assembly. 

In the release addressed to the national and international audience, those who signed the disputed appointments were described as highway robbers who must be brought to book. 

The communique explained that the authors of the appointments fabricated stamps and forged the signature of Hon Cavaye, to throw the nation into confusion and an atmosphere of instability.

Cavaye sends veiled warning

While the dust was yet to settle on the controversial appointments, the House Speaker, opened the third Ordinary session of the House for this year with a call for the separation of powers. 

It was the first time in his decades of heading the house that Cavaye was sending such a message to the public.

With the failed attempt to install a new Private Secretary and Director of Cabinet for the longtime Biya ally, watchers of the polity say his message of last Friday may have been directed to those who attempted to change his collaborators without his knowledge.
