Fruits of quality training: Yaounde International Business School matriculates over 1,000 freshmen!.

The call was by multiple speakers during a matriculation ceremony of over 1,000 freshmen, organised Saturday November 4, at the St. Peter and Parish Hall, Simbock-Yaounde. 

Across the different speeches made during the event, the speakers were unanimous that for the freshmen to succeed, they must maintain the values of discipline, self-control and focus on their goals. 

The President of YIBS, Acho Godfred Taku, speaking during the event, stressed that as students of the school, they should be committed to their education. 

“The expectations are that you should be disciplined and respect the values of YIBS because we want to develop you to become competent and innovative professionals and good citizens of this country,” the YIBS President said.

Committed to ensuring conducive environment 

He assured the students that the entire teaching and administrative staff of YIBS are committed to ensuring a conducive environment for their studies and to give their best for the students. 

“We focus on academic excellence. We are going to do all it takes to do the best things for the students,” Acho said, adding that: “We have a strategic plan to make more things to happen for this school”. 

He expressed delight for the successful holding of this year’s matriculation of YIBS freshmen, which saw an increase in the enrolment of fresh students from about 500 to above 1,000 students. 

“We thank God for this milestone. It takes hard work, commitment and focus to achieve such target,” he said. 

He equally appreciated parents who have entrusted their children into their hands while assuring them that their children are in safe hands as YIBS intends to leave no stone unturned to get the students reach the expected level of professionalism in their chosen career paths. 

“You are not going to regret the decision to send your children to YIBS,” the President promised.

Holistic training 

According to the Vice Chancellor of the YIBS, Prof Anyambod Emmanuel Anya, the drop in moral values in the country has been identified as one of the major causes of the rise in vices such as corruption, tribalism and nepotism in Cameroon.

It is against this backdrop, he said, YIBS has committed to ensuring a holistic training of its trainees. 

“We brought in speakers to talk about morality. One of the problems we have in this country that has promoted a lot of corruption is that we have been morally bankrupt,” the renowned university professor noted. 

“We have to mould the students to be morally upright. That is why our training programmes are tailored toward giving them a holistic education,” Prof Anyambod added. 

He insisted that YIBS is determined to instil into the learners not just academic attainment but also moral attainment in order for them to become good citizens of the nation. 

“If we must transform this nation and build it to respond to the emergence of 2035, we must have people who are apt and determined to make a difference in life. We have to take everything they are doing seriously while making sure that they implant in themselves honesty, transparency and accountability,” the YIBS Vice Chancellor further mentioned. 

He added that: “If we can’t instil these values into young people, then we won’t be able to build a good nation. Our principle is an ethical principle towards education, so that we don’t only talk about innovation, but one that is based on good ethical principles and good behaviours”.   

1,150 freshmen, women matriculated

Going by the YIBS Vice Chancellor, the continuous increase in the number of newly admitted students each year signals the great work ongoing in the institution. 

“The number of students we matriculated today is 1,150 freshmen and women for both campuses A and B,” he stated. 

He continued that this batch of intake is peculiar as they have a new programme designed to not only focus on theory but to put theory into practice. 

“Also, we have been able to produce a university handbook for the students so that they know what they are supposed to do and what they are not supposed to do,” he propounded. 

He also explained that YIBS can boast of a blend of young and elderly dynamic teaching staff. 

“This is an innovation of helping a generation to grow. They are mixed with elderly university professors so that both of them can be able to mould the students,” he stated.

The over 1,000 students who took the YIBS matriculation oath, pledged to uphold and abide by the code of conduct governing all students of the institution. They also committed to discipline themselves in a manner befitting of good and responsible students who bring honour, prestige and service to YIBS. 

Having in mind YIBS’ vision of being a citadel that develops competent and innovative professionals to drive performance, the students equally pledged their support in fostering the vision through commitment to their academic work and to the general rules and regulations governing the school, without reservation. 

The matriculated students are first year learners of the different Higher National Diplomas, HND, programmes at the school. 

The programmes include: Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Marketing Trade-Sales, Insurance, Software Engineering, Computer Science and Networks, Network and Security, Computer Graphics and Web Design, E-commerce and Digital Marketing, Fashion Design and Clothing, Project Management, Human Resource Management, Customs and Transit Management, Logistics and Transport Management, Port Shipping Management and a host of others. 

Besides HND programmes, YIBS also offers training for Bachelor and Masters degrees in various disciplines.
