Bamenda: Suspected Amba fighters kill quarter head in Bamenda.

The late Ndonwie Benatious

Armed men, suspected to be separatist fighters, have reportedly killed the quarter head of Nibung, a precinct in Mile 4 Nkwen, Bamenda III Subdivision of the restive North West Region.

The incident is said to have occurred at about 8:00 am Sunday October 22, 2023.

According to information gathered from sources in Nibung, the victim, Ndonwie Benatious, was ambushed by heavily armed men that fateful morning in his compound.

We gathered that in an attempt to sneak out of their hands, he was shot. We gathered that bullets fired by the fighters caught Ndonwie Benatious on his head and legs.

A source who spoke to The Guardian Post on the basis of anonymity, revealed that Ndonwie crept out of his compound after the incident to get help, but finally succumbed to the cold hands of death due to severe bleeding.

He was confirmed dead at a health facility, after being rushed to there by the population. His corpse has been deposited at the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary, pending burial program.

It was not immediately known why the quarter head was shot. Locals have since been describing the late quarter head as a peaceful and welcoming man, who worked tirelessly for his community.

"Cenco, as we usually called him, was a man who dedicated a lot of time for his people. He contributed a lot in this community and the entire Nkwen. We will greatly miss him," a source said.

As at the time of this report, no group had claimed responsibility over the act. Meanwhile, no authority in the North West Region has reacted to the unfortunate incident.

The incident came weeks after the brutal killing of two civilians in Guzang village, Batibo Subdivision, Momo Division of the North West Region.

The two civilians were publicly executed by Amba fighters for allegedly collaborating with soldiers operating in the area.
