Cameroon set to host 44th La Francophonie Ministerial Confab – Minister Mbella Mbella.

The minister made the declaration in Yaounde yesterday. This was during a diplomatic briefing attended by members of the diplomat corps accredited to Cameroon.

The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo, also attended the briefing. Delegates to the confab, Minister Mbella Mbella said, are expected from 100 La Francophonie member countries.

He said the event will be an opportunity to address political and socio-economic issues facing member countries. 

Cameroon, which will be organsing the event for the first time, Minister Mbella Mbella said, has taken all the necessary measures to ensure the confab is a success.

Key aspects being finalised

The member of government said arrangements have been made to facilitate transportation and provide logistics for participants.

“With this major Francophonie event just a few days away, I am delighted with the state of preparations for the event. In this respect, it should be noted that all aspects of the technical and material organisation are being finalised,” Mbella Mbella assured.

The Yaounde Conference Centre that will serve as venue for the confab, he also stated, is undergoing refurbishing. The delegates, Mbella Mbella also said, will be given the best of accommodation.

The air transport sector, the minister said, has also experienced upgrading to avoid hitches. Communication-related activities, considered a decisive aspect of the gathering, the minister said, have also been addressed. He talked of the putting in place of a special website for the event.

Good governance & stability at centre of discussions

The confab will hold under the theme: “Good governance: A guarantee of political, economic and cultural stability for Francophone citizens”.

According to the minister, “the theme has the merit of placing the citizens of our space at the heart of the reflection and multidimensional action of states, with good governance as a common denominator”.

The event will bring together ministers and other officials from over 100 countries under the La Francophonie bloc and more than 400 other participants.

Cameroon first in CEMAC to host confab

It makes meaning to state that Cameroon will be the first country in the Central African Subregion to host the prestigious event ranked as the most important gathering in the La Francophonie, after the La Francophonie Summit. 

It is designed to ensure that the decisions made during the previous summits are carried out. The gathering also will also serve as a platform to prepare for the next ministerial gathering. It will also recommend new members and observers to the summit.

Besides speaking about Cameroon’s readiness, Minister Mbella Mbella said the country will use the ceremony to sell itself to the world and also present itself as a state capable of hosting the prestigious La Francophonie Summit in the near future. 

Activities before and during the confab will feature the launching of a book to strategise on development in the bloc.

The minister said the event will enable the states to also address issues linked to the promotion of technologies as major developmental tools. 

This, he said, is in line with what was highlighted during the 2022 Summit in Tunisia and the adoption of the block’s budget for the period 2024-2027.
