Buea: NDES Foundation launches institute to empower underprivileged girls.

The Nde Zachariah's Descendants Foundation, NDES Foundation has flagged off an institute which seeks to empower local girls through education and innovation, rooted in community collaboration.



The Buea-based institute dubbed NDES Institute of Technology, NIT was launched last week in the South West Regional chief town.

NDES Institute of Technology officially opened its doors to the public on October 7.

Authorities said the initiative, driven by the NDES Foundation is a game-changer for girls in the community. 

“Thanks to PriVida Limited, a company based in the UK for its continuous support to the NDES Foundation” the foundation said in a statement.

It was disclosed that the core mission of the NDES Institute of Technology is to bridge the gender gap in technology by empowering young girls with essential digital literacy skills. 

With an audience of 10 eager young minds, two dedicated guardians, and seven enthusiastic staff members, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation.

Meanwhile speaking at the start of the activities last week, the Vice President of the NDES Foundation, Sakwe Ruth, stated the pivotal role that technology plays in shaping the future. 

“It's a message that resonates locally and globally: technology is the great equalizer” she said.

A captivating lecture by Nji Florence introduced the kids to the world of computers. 

Her engaging teaching style made the information accessible. They learned about the significance of computer literacy in the modern age, opening doors of opportunity for young girls.

Speakers at the opening ceremony confirmed that it will take the community and the concept of "we" to grow. 

“It's a reminder that together, we can achieve great things, especially in empowering young girls through digital literacy” they said.

“The NDES Foundation is seeking contributions, technical skills, and individual donations. Every bit counts in bringing the promise of technology to even more young minds” a statement then said.

“NDES Foundation is also eager to partner with and learn from like-minded organizations with a commitment to community development and empowering girls. This collaborative spirit is the driving force behind positive change” continued the statement which immediately mentioned that The NDES Institute of Technology official opening marked the start of a journey to empower young girls through digital literacy.

“This initiative recognizes that the future is digital, and girls deserve every opportunity to shape it” it added.

The Nde Zachariah's Descendants Foundation, NDES Foundation, it should be said was established in 2019 by the surviving family of Ma Nde Elizabeth and Pa Nde Zachariah, who resided in Buea, in the South West Region.

Their legacy continues to inspire the Foundation's mission. 

In their memory, the family is dedicated to assisting some of Cameroon's most overlooked rural communities. 

The primary focus of the foundation is on empowering the communities to achieve self-reliance and long-term sustainability.
From its inception, the NDES Foundation has held true to the values of community, inclusion, and transparency. 

The foundation believes that by working closely with these communities, respecting their unique needs and strengths, and maintaining open and honest communication.
