Meme: Amba ‘General’, five aides die in clash with security forces.

A notorious self-styled General of the separatist movement, Bitter Kola, and five other separatist fighters, have died in a clash with security forces.

The six separatist fighters are said to have crumbled under military artillery on Sunday September 17.

This was said to be during a military raid in Mufako Butu village in Konye Subdivision, Meme Division of the South West Region.

A detachment of officers of the 21st Support Battalion, led by its commander, Major Zakarioau Machou Mgbatbou, carried out the raid.

The corpse of the dreaded separatist fighter was displayed at the BICEC Junction in Kumba yesterday. Hundreds of city dwellers streamed to the area to see the corpse.

A series of items seized during the operation were also displayed. This included; eight guns, one rocket launcher, 26 explosives and metal cables.

According to the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme, Chamberlin Ntou'ou Ndong, ‘General’ Bitter Kola, whose real name was Bake Francis, had become a terror.

The administrator said the deceased pseudo-General crisscrossed several villages, wreaking havoc and attacking even security forces along the Kumba-Mamfe road.

The SDO said it was ‘General’ Bitter Kola and his gang who attacked and killed pupils at Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in Fiango Kumba on October 24, 2020.

The SDO also said ‘General’ Bitter Kola was among the dreaded separatist fighters who imposed a two-week lockdown on the population of the North West and South West Regions recently. He also said the deceased, while alive, destroyed several state institutions and attacked civilians.

The SDO saluted the officers of the 21st Support Battalion for demonstrating bravery in battling separatist fighters. He urged the population to remain open and collaborate with security forces.

The Meme SDO also advised the rest of the Amba fighters still in the bushes to drop their arms and go to the disarmament centre as instructed by the Head of State, President Paul Biya.

The administrator told the population that: “We must continue to work together…".

Major Machou Zakariaou, who led the operation, said it was a difficult but successful mission for security forces. He thanked the population for collaborating with security forces.

Flash back

Two weeks ago, Bake Francis alias, ‘General’ Bitter Kola, appeared in a video, apparently in his hideout in Mofako Butu, announcing a two-week lockdown in the crisis-hit English-speaking Regions.

The consequence of the lockdown in Meme Division was enormous. A student was killed at the Mile I neighbourhood in Kumba while there were pockets of attacks on the Kumba Main Market.
