Over 150 needy school-going children in Mbende West, popularly known as Bakoko quarter, a neighbourhood in the Limbe I Subdivision, Fako Division of the South West Region have received donations of didactics as well as school fees, offered by an association.

The didactics were handed to the children by members of the association, Bakoko Solidarity, on September 9, during a ceremony.

The donation of didactics and school fees by the association is in quest to promote education and contribute to community development. It is aimed at supporting needy children who may not may go to school because their parents could not afford their school fees and needs.

The package from the association included books, pens, pencils, school bags, and other didactic materials as well as the payment of fees for some needy children in the community.

Under the leadership of Ufengwei Usambi Brian Essem as president, members of the association galvanised resources with the aim to assist children most especially the needy and internally displaced to have a successful resumption of school for the current academic year.

The more than 150 children, a majority of whom are at the elementary level, received items worth approximately 1.5 million FCFA from the largesse of the members of association.

It should be noted that the event to hand over the didactic materials to the children on Saturday September 9, came a week after the official date of school resumption in the country. Many of the beneficiary children had already spent days at home due to lack of either books or school bags or other needs and some without the payment of their fees.

Parents who accompanied their children to the donation ceremony, expressed joy and gratitude to what they termed the timely intervention which has added value to the academic future of their children.

Speaking during the event, the head of the Bakoko community thanked the initiators, Ufengwei Usambi Brian Essem and his team for putting others first on their scale of preference.

He applauded the association's president, Ufengwei Usambi Brian Essem, for, despite being out of the country, he could coordinate such wonderful initiative to a successful end.

This is not the first time members of the solidarity family of Bakoko are coming to the aid of distressed groups in the community. Before now, they had extended the hand of solidarity to some orphans and widows after mobilising finances to repair the roofs of houses of some members of the community destroyed by heavy downpour accompanied by severe winds.

The donation of books and other school needs thus marks another milestone in the philanthropic actions of the solidarity family as the members have promised to make it a yearly event.
