Misaje: Ndansi Elvis offers full scholarships to over 20 deserving pupils.

United States-based Cameroonian health expert and community development promoter, Ndansi Elvis Nukam, has offered full scholarships to some 20 deserving pupils in Misaje Subdivision, Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region.

The scholarship award ceremony for the 20 kids coincided with the closing event of the annual Shaa Festival, an initiative of the health consultant.

The Shaa Festival, which was in its 6th edition this year, is aimed at promoting hygiene and sanitation in the brewing and sale of Shaa, a local liqour made from fermented corn.

Meanwhile, the 20 Primary School children who benefited from the largesse of Ndansi Elvis, were selected from four denominational schools in Misaje Subdivision.

They were drawn from the Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic and Islamic Schools across Misaje Subdivision.

The 100% scholarship from Ndansi Elvis, who is also founder of the Unite for Health Foundation International, includes school fees, books, school bags and uniforms for the beneficiary pupils.

The offer from Ndansi Elvis has been an annual rendezvous. The initiative began in 2012, same year the Shaa Festival was birthed.

This year’s edition of the Misaje Shaa festival ended Saturday September 2 in the town of Misaje.

The festival, an initiative of Ndansi Elvis, seeks to encourage hygiene and sanitation in the production of the local liquor, brewed from fermented corn and water and mostly consumed by people in the grass field.

The closing ceremony of the festival was attended by several dignitaries, including the traditional ruler of Nkanchi, in Misaje Subdivision.

It was Chila Rose, who emerged winner of the Shaa competition. As lucky winner, Chila Rose bagged home a cash prize of 300,000 FCFA, a large pot and 20 cups.

Organisers said the aim of the Shaa Festival is to eradicate contagious diseases like cough, tuberculosis or typhoid in consumption joints.

Vendors are thus through the festival, sensitised on the need to wash cups using running water from stand bucket taps. The 6th edition of the Shaa Festival flagged Thursday August 17, 2023.

The first stage of the competition was organised in all 12 villages that make up Misaje Subdivision.

Each village then produced one winner to participate at the grand finale, which was staged in the town of Misaje, on September 2.

The vision bearer of the festival, Ndansi Elvis, had made available the sum of 2.5 million FCFA for the jamboree.
