Ngoketunjia Youth MP, Sama Sylveinus gets UN ambassadorial role.

The Youth Member of Parliament, MP, for Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region, Sama Sylveinus, has been appointed Young United Nations Senator for Africa.

The youth leader was conferred the prestigious international role last week. That was during an event held at the Yaounde Conference Centre. They were unveiled by the Cameroon Association for the United Nations, UN.

Sama, who is also the President of the Cameroon National Youth Council for the Balikumbat Subdivision, was named in the role alongside several other hard-working and development-loving members of the Youth Parliament.

The group’s mandate runs from 2023 to 2025 and is renewable once.

Sama and peers are expected to during the mandate, the other political youngsters are expected to champion the follow-up of the 17 action plans for Agenda 2063 of the African Union, the AU which pushes for a selfless contribution to transforming Africa into a global powerhouse of the future.

Sama and his peers are also expected to champion the development of Cameroon in the course of the exercise of their duties as Young United Nations Senators for Africa through ideas garnered from their experiences back home and from their colleagues from other parts of the world.

Daunting but surmountable challenge

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian Post shortly after last week’s unveiling ceremony, Sama who hails from Balikumbat, promised to live up to expectations in his new role.

Though cognizant of the huge challenges ahead, Sama said he will do all within his power to ensure he fights against major societal ills including all forms of discrimination and exploitation.

“I am conscious of the responsibilities that lay ahead of me in this new role. I renew my vow to fight against any form of injustice, greediness, the exploitation of man by man, I will fight against it. Any form of discrimination, I will fight against it,” the award-winning youth leader stated.

“I am going to promote equality among human beings because we are all equal in front of God. Whatever we are in the society is just a privilege. And to those that use their powers, be it financial or intellectual powers, to dominate the poor, the incapable and the underprivileged, I will like to reassure everyone that I am going to fight against that,” he emphasised.

He has called on people of goodwill and development-loving individuals in the society not only to pray for his protection and success in the fight but also enjoined them to join the already moving wagon in the tussle for justice and equality.

“I am conscious of the fact that whenever you take that path to promote equality among human beings, I am aware you become an enemy to many. So many people may not want to be associated with you and will find all possible means to bring up negative talks about you and many will fight to destroy you,” Sama said in part.

“If God who told us to fight against the oppression of the poor is still alive, I believe that God will fight for me. I enjoin everyone to pray for me and join me in this course so that we can fight against injustice. I pray that you help me on this path which many believes is traditionally a deathtrap. But dying because of humanity will be dying notably,” he continued.

Sama not new to the game

As personally promised, Sama is expected to fully deliver in his new UN Ambassadorial role. This is according to observers close to the youth leader and his personal track record.

In recent times, Sama has come out as one of the most dynamic youth from Ngoketunjia Division. Late last year, he was elected the President of the Cameroon National Youth Council for the Balikumbat Sub Division.

Months later, the development and youth emancipation champion further enriched his profile after getting elected as a Youth MP.

The election gave the youngster a better chance to push for more strides in an area that had already been familiar with through Sama and God Foundation World Wide where he is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer.

Sama made a statement move early this year when he organized and sponsored the training of over 50 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, of the North West Region leaving in the Centre Region through a scholarship.

The scholarship program which was in its second edition, followed similar development-oriented actions brought about or championed by Sama who brought together Ngoketunjia youth in a national scholarship and peace convention in a bid to trace a productive path toward development in the Ngoketunjia Division.

Sama has since then continued building a more powerful profile good enough to get him ample ready for a national assignment but also set for international duties like the recent one from the UN.

Those efforts have been proven and recognised in several ways, notably the numerous awards he has accrued in the recent past including the Best Pan-African Youth for Leadership and Governance award from the PANAFES Award bagged last year.

Early this year, he bagged The Guardian Post achievement award as the Most Impactful Youth in Leadership and Community Development.

Solid academic backing

In terms of academic qualification, Sama, has over the years, built a rich profile beginning with the GCE and Ordinary levels certificates obtained at Government High School Balikumbat.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management earned from the Management and Business Academy Institute in Douala.

He also graduated with a Human Kinetic and Health Education degree from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Nigeria.

Sama equally holds a Diploma in Chaplaincy Ministry from EMET Global Theological Seminary and College Georgia United States of America as well as a certificate on modern-day diplomacy from the Canada-based Conseil The Rayonnement International.
