Flash back

It should be recalled that PHS Kumba was created on January 5, 1963. The school began its operations at the Fiango Church Centre building, now known as Presbyterian Youth Centre, PYC Kumba.

The school was originally referred to as Basel Mission College, BMC, following its creation via Decision No: DE1534/12 of 21-7-1962.

The school began with an enrolment of 60 boys, with a certain Acha Emmanuel M. Abong, as the first student to be admitted.

Other prominent names of the pioneer batch of students of the institution include amongst others: Hon Ekolle Peters (MP for Meme West, Lifanda Samuel (former Government Delegate to the then Limbe Urban Council), late Henry Njalla Quan (former General Manager of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC) and Caven Nnoko Mbele (former Government Delegate to the then Kumba Urban Council).

At creation, the school had four members of staff with P.A. Walters, a Whiteman, as Principal. The tutors were: P. Mesumbe, M.P. Yewah and B. Agborbesong.

In 1966, the school was named Presbyterian Secondary School, PSS. In 1983, it was transformed into a High School, with the present name, Presbyterian High School, PHS Kumba. Since 1963, the school has witnessed a rise in enrolment while maintaining its boarding status.
