Meme: Military raid leaves five Amba fighters dead.

A raid by soldiers of the Sixth Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR Region, with headquarters in Mambanda, Monday August 7, has left five separatist fighters dead.

The raid took place in the village of Boppo, near Banga Bakundu in Mbonge Subdivision, Meme Division of the South West Region. The Amba fighters killed included the self-styled General T. Lion.

The BIR soldiers also destroyed an Amba fighters’ camp and seized items including charms and weapons. The raid followed continued harassment from separatist fighters on the population, especially commuters along the Kumba-Buea Road.

Considered by military hierarchy as a success, the raid was also an opportunity for the military to educate the population of Banga Bakundu, on denouncing the atrocities of the separatist fighters by reporting to the forces of law and order.

Colonel Danzabe Rene, Commander of the Sixth BIR Region, congratulated the population for the cooperation they have been giving the military. He noted that it is just a matter of time before the rest of the separatist fighters still wreaking havoc across parts of the South West Region “will be completely wiped out”.

Meanwhile, last week, officers of the anti-terrorism squad of the national gendarmerie, killed a separatist kingpin, Ngange Valentine, in Pulletin Quarters. The warlord was noted for terrorising the population of that area, especially those selling drinks.

In another development, the Meme administration last week received an ex-Amba fighter who came to drop his arms. Tukwa Elias Motuba surrendered after fleeing to Nigeria, but later decided to come back home to join the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration, DDR, Centre.
