France: Cameroon Ambassador bans indecent dressing at Embassy.

Cameroon’s Ambassador to France, André-Magnus Ekoumou, has banned indecent dressing among visitors at the country’s embassy in Paris and other consular services in the European nation.

The ban is the content of a note date Tuesday August 1, attributed to Ambassador Ekoumou.

In the release, the diplomat called on visitors and every other person seeking any service from the Cameroon embassy and other consular services in France, to dress properly.

Among  other dresses banned, the  Cameroonian diplomat cited the wearing of torn jeans popularly known as  ‘destroyed’, halter tops, T-shirts, dresses exposing the cleavage, tangled panties, leggings, military uniforms; except on presentation of professional card, tight-fitting dresses, pyjamas and slippers among others.

In Tuesday’s note attributed to the head of Cameroon’s diplomacy in France, anyone wishing to access such facilities must abide by the norms in place or stay away.

Many a Cameroonian within the nation and those abroad have applauded the decision of the diplomat. Many say it comes to restore order and sanity, given that most people had reportedly been treating the issue of having access to such diplomatic services with levity.

Others, like Yvonne Ngwe, said the situation had become worrisome, especially for young girls who dress indecently and access such diplomatic representations.

“Young girls have gone haywire in recent times all in the name of fashion. Most nowadays dress and move about almost naked and even have the courage to visit public offices in such attires. If what we are hearing in France is true, then I want to salute the Ambassador for such a move,” Ngwe said.

For Elisabeth Mbi, indecent dressing has become a major social issue across several nations of the globe. Mbi said despite the growing arguments in favour of human rights and freedom, there must be benchmarks and basic societal guidelines to ensure decorum.

Like Ngwe, Mbi said tackling especially people who put on funny dresses and keep hairstyles that are out of the ordinary, need to be called to order. “Most ladies and young men put on destroyed jeans, cropped tops and present themselves before state officials”.

Beyond the action of the diplomat, there are those who say the government as a whole needs to take action to address the growing norm of indecent dressing, especially among the youth.
