The Guardian Post welcomes fresh batch of students on internship.

Cameroon’s most credible and authoritative daily newspaper, The Guardian Post, has welcomed the second batch of students on internship.

The over 20 trainees, who are from different public and private journalism institutions of learning, began the academic exercise yesterday.

They were welcomed by authorities of the media giant at their imposing Efoulan-Lac, Yaounde Head Office. This was during the morning editorial meeting.

It was the Managing Editor of The Guardian Post, Doh Bertrand Nua, who welcomed the students on behalf of the Publisher/ Editor-in-Chief, Kristian Ngah Christian.

During the brief session attended by Desk Editors and reporters of The Guardian Post, Doh insisted on the need for the students to be of good conduct throughout their internship period.

He particularly cited the need for the students to be attentive, punctual and to be of good behavior, to both their friends and staff of the media house.

The Managing Editor urged the students to be decent, especially in their outfits while showing up at work.

Interns express expectations

One of the interns, a final year student of the Advanced School of Mass Communication, ASMAC, Fon Halliday, said his dream is to better his skills not only to be a good journalist but to become a newspaper publisher in the future.

“I aspire to be a publisher. I have always loved The Guardian Post. I am here to learn on the techniques of establishing an institution like this,” Fon said.

For her part, Mokito Ann, first year student from ASMAC, was delighted with the hospitality of the staff of media outlet.

“…the staff of The Guardian Post are very welcoming. I believe they will help us to further our reporting skills,” Mokito noted.

Similar feelings were shared by Beryl Diane Massa, a student from the Department of Communication and Development Studies in the University of Bamenda, UBa.

“The place is nice and everybody is welcoming...at the end of my one month internship, I love to do more of sports reporting,” Massa said.

On her part, Tanyu Giselle, a student from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, JMC, in the University of Buea, said: “The Guardian Post Head Office is very beautiful and neat. The staff are welcoming. I intend to make good use of this internship exercise to upgrade my reporting skills”.

Meanwhile, a member of the first batch of students on internship, Talla Peace, said her experience for the past one month has been exciting.

“When I arrived, I knew nothing about how news stories are written. Now I am confident and able to write news stories. The editors and reporters of The Guardian Post have been of great support to me,” Talla confessed.
