Former social affairs minister, Zang Nguele, dies at 76.

The former Minister of Social Affairs and one-time Member of Parliament, MP, Rose Zang Nguele née Abada Essomba, has died at the age of 76.

The political icon passed on in Yaounde, yesterday, following an illness. The deceased pedagogue, who was also a bigwig of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party, served the nation in various capacities before her demise. 

Born May 12, 1947, in Yaounde, she is said to have attended Primary School at Notre Dame des Victoires, Abong Mbang and at LomiĂ© Primary School, where she completed in 1955. 

Upon finishing her Secondary Education at the General Leclerc High School in Yaounde. She furthered her university studies at the then University of Yaounde.

After obtaining her postgraduate diploma (DEA) in Modern French Literature in 1974, she began teaching French and Spanish at the General Leclerc High School in Yaounde, the Government Technical High School Yaounde and the Collège de la Retraite. 

She was later appointed National Inspector of French Language Teaching at the then Ministry of National Education. 

For faithfully serving the state, she was called to higher duties and appointed then Minister of Social Affairs in 1984, a position she occupied for four years.

Having left government on May 16, 1988, Rose Zang Nguele, was again appointed Deputy Director General of the Directorate General of Tourism Development on August 5, 1988.

Her ambition to upgrade her career saw her joining politics, as she picked her membership of the ruling Cameroon National Union, CNU. 

Her first political function was Secretary of the office of the Cameroon National Union Women's Organisation, OFUNC Mfoundi Section. She later became President of the OFUNC Mfoundi Section.

Following the transformation of the ruling CNU party to Cameroon’s People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, she continued to serve faithfully in various capacities. 

She occupied the post of first vice-president of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement Women's Wing. She later became member of the CPDM Central Committee, Assistant Secretary at the Secretariat of the CPDM Central Committee and member of the CPDM Political Bureau.
