Eyumojock, Akonolinga: FEICOM to fund construction of modern bus station, market.

The Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance best known by its French acronym, FEICOM, has announced funding for the construction of an international frontier park and a modern market in Eyumojock, Manyu Division of the South West Region and in Akonolinga, Nyong and Mfoumou Division of the Centre Region, respectively.

The projects were approved and unveiled recently. This was during the 50th session of FEICOM's Financial Assistance Committee for Councils. According to reports from FEICOM, the two councils are experiencing population growth, necessitating such modern infrastructure.

In the case of the Akonolinga Council, the current market in the locality is decades old and has become unhealthy. To remedy the situation, the mayor of Akonolinga, applied to FEICOM for funding to construct a new market. It is hoped that once executed, the new market will give Akonolinga a facelift and increase council revenue.

The infrastructure, according to the Director General of FEICOM, Philippe Camille Akoa, includes 250 stores, 60 kiosks, a restaurant, parking lots, an autonomous water supply system and a photovoltaic power supply.

Similarly, the prototype of Eyumojock International Frontier Park was equally unveiled during the same meeting.

The unveiling came after an agreement was reached between FEICOM and the Eyumojock Council. Both institutions are expected to sign a convention in the days ahead.

The International Frontier Park, according to FEICOM, will cost 1.4 billion FCFA. The first phase of the funding, amounting to 498,000,000 FCFA, officials also said, has been approved.

Authorities say the goal is to make the bus station, on the border with neighbouring Federal Republic of Nigeria, more modern and boost council revenue.

Commenting on the projects, the Director General of FEICOM, Camille Akoa, said, funding for the construction of the projects is in line with National Development Strategy, SND30.

Within the scope of SND30, the FEICOM boss said emphasis is on building infrastructures for the structural transformation of the economy of councils and communities.
