2023 GCE records 3.37% drop in performance.

Results of the 2023 session of the General Certificate of Education, GCE, have been released.

The results were made public via a Communique, by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga.

The statistics of the results were first read on state radio, Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV. This was during the 5:00pm bilingual prime time newscast.

According to the statistics seen by The Guardian Post, there is an overall drop of 3.37%, in the performance of candidates, compared to results of 2022. 

In all, some 182,249 candidates registered for the exams. 170, 160 of the registered candidates finally sat the exams with 10,503 others absenting from the exercise.

Some 114,516 candidates, who sat the examination, finally passed, recording a percentage of 66.88, according to the results released yesterday.

A total of 54,644 candidates who sat the exams did not make it, as per the official statistics. Compared to percentage passed of last year, which stood at 70.25, there is a drop of -3.37%.

In details, 93,787 candidates registered for GCE Ordinary Level exams this year but 83,498 ended up taking the exercise. 

There were 637 absences while 56,075 candidates passed. Some 27,423 candidates failed the exams, according to the results released Monday.

For the Technical and Vocational Education Examination, TVEE, Intermediate Level, some 64,123 candidates registered for the exams while 63,221 sat the session.

There were 698 absences while 43,294 passed. Some 19,927 candidates did not passed the exams.

Meanwhile, for the GCE Advanced Level, 14,909 registered while 14,127 sat the exams. There were 95 absences while 8,405 passed. 5,722 candidates did not make it in the exams.

For the Technical and Vocational Education Examination, TVEE, Advanced Level, some 9,430 candidates registered while 9,314 ended up the taking the exams. There were 73 absences while 6,742 candidates passed. 2,572 candidates failed the exams.
