Preparations heighten ahead of Fru Ndi's funeral.

Preparations for the burial of the late National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, SDF party, Ni John Fru Ndi, have heightened in Bamenda, in the North West Region.

Fru Ndi, who died on June 12, in Yaounde, aged 82, will be buried on July 29, in his native village of Baba II, in Santa Subdivision, Mezam Division.

Members of the Regional and Local Organising Committee, headed by the Mayor of Bamenda III Council, Fonguh Cletus, with other members, including Fusi Wilfred and Langsi Abel, announced the funeral/burial programme during a press briefing in Bamenda, on July 20.

According to members of the Local Organising Committee, the corpse removal in Yaounde shall take place on Thursday July 27, followed by an ecumenical service at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

On Friday July 28, the corpse shall leave for Bamenda by 5a.m. There shall be three stops at Makenene, Bafoussam and Mbouda, before arriving Bamenda at about 3p.m.

Appeal for massive turnout

The Local Organising Committee also called on the entire population of the North West Region, party members and sympathisers, to come out in their numbers to celebrate and give a befitting burial to the man they said fought so much for democracy in Cameroon.

"We are calling on the population of the North West Region to turnout massively, beginning at Matazem and at Welcome to Bamenda, to give a befitting farewell to our father," Mayor Fongu said.

The corpse is expected to be laid at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue Grandstand by 3p.m. By 5p.m, there shall be church service at Presbyterian Church Musang, where the SDF late National Chairman used to fellowship.

From there, the corpse shall be taken to his Ntarinkon residence for an all-night vigil, before departure to Baba II, on Saturday July 29, for burial.

"We are putting every energy in motion, to make sure that the National Chairman is given a befitting burial. We are appealing to those who think that it is not good to bury the dead, to think the same with us," Fusi Wilfred said.

All party members of the Social Democratic Front were also asked to wear their party attires on July 28 and the fabric on 29.

The population has also been assured their security before, during and after the funeral will be guaranteed.

"Be rest assured that your security will be guaranteed. We are doing everything to make sure that nobody should be embarrassed," Langsi Abel said.
