Nfon Mukete thanks Biya for major road projects in Meme Division.

The monarch was speaking at his palace on Saturday July 15. This was during a royal banquet he offered to grace and encourage the construction of the Kumba-Ekondo-Titi and the Kumba-Tombel-Loum roads.

While receiving the contracting partner of the Kumba-Tombel-Loum road, the South West Development Authority, SOWEDA, the Bafaw paramount ruler commended the Board Chair, General Manager and their team for making the job a priority. 

He noted that SOWEDA began the job by pre-financing part of the project, which he described as “a great blessing to the City of Kumba”. 

Nfon Mukete used the occasion to thank the heads of the various technical services in Meme Division for their selfless services and collaboration in ensuring the smooth execution of the projects.

He also congratulated Col. Danzabe Rene, Head of the Sixth Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR “for the good job” along the Kumba-Ekondo-Titi road. 

He said with God's blessing, no major incident has occurred, before praying that the projects rides successfully to the end. 

“…it is such a great blessing from God to have two major roads offered by the Head of State for tarring linking Kumba to other areas. The roads will make Kumba great again as it was in the days of before” the Nfon said. 

The roads upon completion, will enable the free flow of goods and persons into and out of the city of Kumba, the revered traditional authority said. 

Enter SOWEDA technical team 

Taking the cue at Saturday’s event, the head of the technical team from SOWEDA, Ndifor Daniel Tah, said it was a privilege for him to be part of the team to rehabilitate the Kumba-Tombel-Loum road. 

He noted that the General Manger of SOWEDA has insisted that the job be realised on time. He said since the launch of the project, some 4 KM has been realised.

Ndifor used Saturday’s gathering to thank the military for offering his team enormous moral support to ensure that the work is realized on time. 

The project in a nutshell

Maintenance works on the Kumba-Tombel- Loum road covers a distance of over 33 KM. Work began in earnest on July 6, 2023.

The project will cost the state and its development partners over 900 million FCFA. The project entails the grading and opening up of gutters.

It will be realised in two phases. The first phase includes the stretch from Loum passing through Tombel to Big Etam. Meanwhile, the second phase runs from Kumba to Etam passing through Mambanda and Teke. 

The Kumba-Tombel Loum road is less than 30 minute drive but due to its bumpy nature, vehicles have been unable to ply the stretch.
