NW Public Independent Conciliator schools senators on mission, functions.

Senators of the North West Region have been educated on the creation, mission and functioning of the Region’s Public Independent Conciliator, PIC.

This was during an information seminar in Bamenda on Friday July 14. The seminar, which brought together six Senators from the North West Region, was chaired by the North West Public Independent Conciliator, Tamfu Simon Fai.

During the seminar, Tamfu Fai walked the Senators through a presentation on the mission and functioning of the office of the Public Independent Conciliator.

The second presentation was done by Ndi Nelson, Research Officer of the PIC, who lectured the lawmakers on the substantive mandate of the Public Independent Conciliator.

Another presentation was done by Yang Francis, Research Officer of the PIC, on the complaint management mechanism and the conciliatory process.

It was revealed during the seminar by the Public Independent Conciliator that the office has received 94 complaints, 72 of which have been treated and 22 undergoing treatment.

Speaking after the seminar, the Public Independent Conciliator, Tamfu Simon Fai, said the purpose of the gathering was also to build a platform of cooperation with the Senators in order to have one mission to better develop and serve the communities.

"The objectives of this seminar was to remind ourselves that the PIC and Senators have one mission, which is the development of our council areas. We had this seminar today to make sure that we understand our roles very well and build a platform to better serve the population," Tamfu Simon said.

At the end of the seminar, the Senators promised to work together with the Public Independent Conciliator to fully follow-up councils in the development of the communities.

"The seminar was very important because our competencies goes along. The Senators control government action and follow up the regional and local councils, while PIC receives complaints and does conciliation. We are going to work hand-in-hand with the Public Independent Conciliator to see how we can improve on the functioning of the councils," Senator Eno Lafon Emma said.

Before the seminar, the Public Independent Conciliator had organised similar gatherings with Senior Divisional Officers, SDOs, elite, mayors and other stakeholders in the Region, to give them information about the functioning of the institution.

The Public Independent Conciliator has also traveled to areas like Mbengwi, Fundong, where he met with the population and council officials to school them about their mission.
