National Interpools: Bafmeng United up to positive start, ISOSHA drops points.

The two Anglophone clubs competing in the 2023 National Interpools, Bafmeng United Football Academy, BUFA, and Isles of Hope Sports Academy, ISOSHA of Limbe, had contrasting fortunes on match day one last weekend.

The competition, which serves as play-offs to the Elite Two Championship, kicked off in Yaounde, on Saturday July 15.

While the flagbearers of the North West Region won their first match in the tournament, their sister club from the South West Region, settled for a draw.

Bafmeng United, who are poised on securing qualification to Elite Two, defeated Krimi FC of Garoua by 2-0.

The Group B fixture of the 10-club competition was played yesterday at the Annexe 1 of the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.

Enaha Ashu Toda and Briand Atanga were on target as the academicians made nonsense of their opponents.

BUFA dominated play at kickoff, with Ngong Livinus and Awudu Lukong, coming close to getting the curtain raiser on two occasions within the first five minutes.

The dominance of the North West Region club paid off on 22 minutes when Ensah Ashu scored from the penalty spot.

Krimi FC was sanctioned after defender, Bangoura handled the ball with his hand in the 18 yard.

16 minutes later, Briand Atanga headed in a well-timed cross from Enah Ashu to increase Bafmeng United’s lead to 2-0. BUFA took the two goals lead to recess.

The Garoua club looked more purposeful during the start of the second half, creating more chances with the hope of reducing the deficit.

However, BUFA keeper, Ngong Leonard and his defensive block, remained steadfast.

Daniel Song Nwelar and Ahudu Lukong could have aggravated the score in favour of Bafmeng United in the last quarter of the game but failed to concretise their chances. The final score stood at 2-0.

North West, Governor Adolphe Lele L’Afrique was among the hundreds of supporters who pushed Bafmeng United to victory.

The drumbeats, songs and colourful dance steps from the club’s supporters gave a special touch to the atmosphere at the stadium.

The boys of Coach Soh Simplis thus registered their first 3 points in the five-club group and will look to continue the winning streak on match Day Two.

Bafmeng United, who now top the group alongside Ngaoundere FC, next face Olympique of Biwong Bane, from the South Region, on Tuesday July 18.

The second group B fixture yesterday pitting Ngaoundere FC against Pouma FC from Littoral, finished on a 1-nill score in favour of the Adamawa club. Dilane Mveinti scored the lone goal of the game.

ISOSHA drop points

Isles of Hope Sports Academy from the South West Region, will be looking to win their second match today, after dropping points in their first encounter on Saturday against Union Sportive of Abong Mbang, in the tournament opener.

The encounter finished goalless. If not for the heroics of their goalkeeper, Ashu Kelvin, ISOSHA would have suffered a defeat in the match.

The team plays its second match against Sporting of Maroua today.

Volcan of Noun, from the West Region, currently tops the group with 3 points after their 1-0 win last Saturday, over Academie Nyom II from the Centre Region.

The 2023 National Interpools runs till July 30 with just two of the 10 competing clubs to qualify for the Elite Two Championship next season.
