Far North: Suspected Boko Haram agents abduct 13 persons.

Suspected agents of the Boko Haram terrorist group are reported to have abducted at least 13 locals in Mordas, a locality on Cameroon’s border with Chad.

The incident is reported to have happened on the night of June 28, breaking 29, 2023. According to the French language daily, Le Jour, among those abducted are women and children.

The media organ identified some of those abducted as; Ali Kofram, Idrissa Kanuti, Ibrahim Ibrahim, Issa Hawa, Kassala, Mariam and two kids whose name it disclosed only as Farida and Nadja. The identity of four others abducted, remains unknown.

It is reported that the Boko Haram elements staged the attack in alliance with Ansaru, another jihadist group said to have been founded by a certain Mahaman Nour. Nour is said to be a Cameroonian.

The Ansaru group is said to be specialised abduction. The group is reported to have conducted several of such operations in localities on the border between Cameroon and Nigeria.

Last Wednesday's attack, reports hold, came in the wake of another terrorist group, Islamic State’s West Africa Province, ISWAP, whose resources have dwindled and is now investing in farming. 

Most of those abducted from Mordas, a fishing community, it is said, may have been taken to the terrorists’ hideouts, where they have farms. It is unclear if those abducted have regained freedom.

To recall that on the night of Monday 29, breaking Tuesday May 30, suspected Boko Haram terrorists, killed seven persons in the Far North Region among them customs officers. 

The attacks happened in Mora and Ziangue. The officers who lost their lives in the incident were; Second Grade Police Inspector; Nana Nourou, alongside Tawato Cedric and Ebongue Alphonse, who were serving at the Mora Mobile Customs Brigade. 

A soldier, Guigolo Alain Obono, also died in the second attack. The deceased were recently given military honours in Yaounde, by their respective hierarchies before their remains were handed to their families for burial.
