Dr Molua Becke powers Bonavada football tourney with 1 million FCFA.

US-based Cameroonian businessman and Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Second Chance Support Services, Dr Molua Smith Becke, has powered the Bonavada Football for Health Tournament with the sum of one million FCFA.

The revered son of Great Soppo village in Buea Subdivision, Fako Division of the South West Region, handed the support to members of the organising committee of the tournament recently. 

This edition of the annual football tournament is billed to kick off Sunday July 9, at the community field of Upper Bokova village.

This year’s competition marks the 11th edition of the integrated sports tournament which was launched in 2013. 

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO/President of the Organising Committee, Mbua Emmanuel Mbua, in a message, acknowledged receipt of the support from Dr Molua.

“The organising committee of the Bonavada Football for Health Tournament acknowledges receipt of the sum of one million (1,000,000) FCFA from Dr Molua Smith Becke (US-based Great Soppo son), CEO of Second Chance Support Services LLC, Alaska (USA) and Founder/CEO of Light Up Fako project,” read an acknowledgement message from Mbua Mbua.

‘Gesture my way to show love’

Dr Molua who is also the Founder/CEO of ‘Operation Light Up Fako’, is quoted as having said the gesture is part of his way to show love to his community.

"I believe in investing in people and showing them that love is very important," Dr Molua who has for three years being championing an ambitious project to install solar lamps in all villages in his native Fako Division said. 

 

Dr Molua not new to community out reach 

Through his ambitious Operation Light Up Fako project, Dr Molua who resides in the State of Alaska in the United States of America, USA, has already installed quality solar lamps bought directly from Dubai in 17 villages in Fako Division. 

The first phase of the project born from his desire to give back to his community and contribute to the development efforts of the state was launched in November 2021. 

“My goal is to reach out to every village, reach out to every individual in Fako and every other organisation in Fako,” the businessman who also invested in community events for homeless people in Alaska had stated. 

The Operation Light Up Fako project has as goal to reduce insecurity within communities due to epileptic power supply. 
“My intention is to reduce insecurity. You know when there is light, there is less crime, less harassment and more security,” Dr Molua had said in an interview with The Guardian Post 2022, prior to the launch of the second edition.   

In a bid to start charity from home, he had launched the project in his native Great Soppo village where 15 solar lamps each were installed in Upper Mokongo and Lower Mokongo. 

He would later, due to positive feedback, decide to extend the installation to 15 other villages in order to portray the “sign of unity and team work” among Fako people. 

Still within the first phase, five solar lamps each were installed in Wonganga (Small Soppo), Wovilla (Small Soppo), Woteke (Small Soppo), Likoko, Bwassa, Likombe, Bokwai, Bonduma, Lower Bonjongo, Bokwango, Likoko Membea, Bokoko and Muea villages. 

The second phase of the Operation Light Up Fako targeted Bojongo Court Area that has 17 villages as well as Buea Town that has 14 quarters.

About 11th edition 

A release issued by Mbua Emmanuel Mbua on behalf of the organising committee, indicated that 11th edition is billed to kick off 1pm at the community field of Upper Bokova village. The tournament is played in male and female categories. 

The first match to kick start the tournament for the female category will see defending champions, Santos Ladies FC of Boteva village to lock horns with Mafany Sports Academy Ladies FC of Small Soppo village. 

In the men’s category, defending champions, Veteran FC of Upper Bokova village will clash with Ultimate Warriors FC of Bwiteva.

Aside football, the project also has humanitarian components and activities including reaching out to orphans and widows as well as health component which involves organising community health fairs for free consultations and medications. 

The opening ceremony, the release from the organising committee detailed, will feature humanitarian activities including donation of gifts to widows, women as well as other donation an association. 

Prizes to be awarded in both categories of the tournament amount to approximately one million FCFA.
