After Njalla Quan Jr’s resignation: Only one Anglophone in 18-member FECAFOOT Executive Committee!.

Anglophones have been left with only one voice in the 18-member Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT! The sad development follows the resignation of the institution’s fourth Vice President, Henry Njalla Quan Jnr.

The football promoter penned his resignation yesterday amidst an ongoing fracas between him and the President of FECAFOOT, Eto’o Fils Samuel.

In the July 4 letter to the FECAFOOT boss, he said he had also resigned from all other positions he occupied within the federation.

With his resignation, the only other Anglophone left in the 18-member FECAFOOT Executive Committee is Mbigha Felix, who hails from the North West Region. But unlike Njalla Quan Jr, who occupied a strategic position in the FECAFOOT Executive Committee, Mbigha is only a floor member without any portfolio!

Njalla Quan Jnr was elected fourth Vice President of the governing football body, during the December 11, 2021, Elective General Assembly in Yaounde. He was the lone Anglophone among the four Vice Presidents of the Executive Committee. He was also occupying the post of president of Marketing and Promotion Committee of FECAFOOT.

Njalla Quan Jr, in  his position as one of the Vice Presidents, was representing the North West and South West geographical area as per Section 3, Article 35(4) of FECAFOOT statutes which states that: “Members of the Executive Committee shall elect from the membership of the Committee 4 (four) Vice Presidents, each representing one of the following five geographical areas, bearing in mind that the geographical area of origin of the President of FECAFOOT shall no longer be entitled to the position of Vice President: Adamaoua and East Regions, Centre and South Regions, Far-North and North Regions, Littoral and West Regions and North West and South West Regions”.

What the laws says about resigned or deceased executive member

It should be recalled that Article 38(1) of FECAFOOT statutes on vacancies within the Executive Committee states: “A position shall be considered vacant upon death, resignation, expulsion, or where a member of the Executive Committee other than the President of FECAFOOT, fails to attend four consecutive meetings to which he has been duly convened without justification”.

It further stresses that where a position of the Executive Committee becomes vacant, the vacancy shall only be filled until the next Ordinary General Assembly, which will elect a replacement for the remaining period of the term.

As at moment, just two of the four FECAFOOT Vice Presidents elected in December 2021, are still occupying their positions. Before Njalla Quan Jnr’s resignation, the 2nd Vice President, Boubakary Bello had died in February 2023.
