Momo Division: Kidnapped CPDM Section President, others regain freedom!.

Some supporters of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party, in Momo Division, North West Region, who were abducted on May 21, have emerged from the unknown.

The supporters surfaced yesterday, looking tattered and cranky, disclosing that, Amba fighters had planned to execute them on July 3.

Speaking on behalf of his peers, the CPDM Section President for Ngie, Stephen Ujambeng, said they had gone through hell in the hands of Amba fighters.

Ujambeng said their abductors had been moving them from one Amba camp to another for the 41 days spent in the wild.

He disclosed that when they were informed of plans to execute them, they reached out to the Divisional Officer, DO of Widikum, who mobilised security forces.

Ujambeng said they escaped into the waiting hands of security forces who took them to Bamenda. He expressed gratitude to those who had been praying and other stakeholders who kept working for their release.

He specified that they had been abducted in a village called Gwokong, as they headed for Bamenda, from Ngie, after taking part in festivities to mark the 51st National Day on May 20, 2023.

Before then, he said, they had organised a CPDM Section Conference culminating in the National Day celebrations which caused Amba boys to come after them.

Given what he said are atrocities committed by Amba fighters, Ujambeng averred that, President Paul Biya must be saluted for being soft and opening a window for Amba fighters to disarm.

Going by him, if Biya were not patient and calm, he won’t have been urging youngsters who have been misled to fight against the State to drop arms and reintegrate into society.

He had been abducted alongside Gyera Anthony Ngu and the YCPDM Section President Momo IV, Asumba Agharih. Some of the officials abducted are said to be principals of colleges in Andek Subdivision.

To recall that shortly after their abduction, the Member of Parliament, MP for Ngie, Hon Awutah Philip, had in an interview indicated that the fighters were demanding a 50 million FCFA ransom.

Then, Awutah said, the demand was just for Ujamebeng, who is also a councillor at the North West Regional Assembly.

As at that time, the MP said the separatist fighters had given a three-day ultimatum for the money to be paid or the worst was going to happen. He had also disclosed of a report having been forwarded to the CPDM Central Committee for something to be done about their abducted party comrades.

The Momo administration and the CPDM party hierarchy, as at press time last night, were yet to react to the release of the concerned.
