Yaounde: The Guardian Post powering Wimbum Unity Tournament.

Cameroon’s leading print media organ, The Guardian Post, has continued to show its unwavering support and commitment towards the successful organisation of the Wimbum Unity Tournament.

The annual football jamboree, which is currently underway in Yaounde, has had additional flavour, thanks to the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian Post, Kristian Ngah Christian.

The Man of The Match of each encounter at the group stage of the tournament bags home an award and a cash prize of 5000 FCFA from The Guardian Post.

The amount will be increased to 10,000 per winner as from the quarter-finals, which marks the start of the knockout phase of the competition.

In all, 29 matches will be played from the group stage to the final of the tournament. The Guardian Post Publisher says each Man of The Match of the 29 matches will bag home an award and a cash prize.

Some of the players who have so far won The Guardian Post Man of The Match include Nsanyu Glein of G12, Buyoh Serge Nkoh of WISU FC and Shey Ranni of BOMAG.

On the motive of supporting the tournament’s Man of the Match Award after every encounter, Kristian Ngah Christian said: “The Guardian Post is not only about excellent journalism. We also sponsor and encourage young football talent”.

The gesture by the The Guardian Post Publisher has been highly saluted by organisers of the tournament.

Organisers of the 10-team tourney have heaped praises on The Guardian Post Publisher/Editor-In-Chief for raising the standards of the tournament.

It should be recalled that it is the first time since the inception of the tournament, 18 years ago, that the Man of The Match in all the matches played, will go home with an award and a cash prize.

Organisers say aside raising the standards of the tournament, the move by The Guardian Post Publisher/Editor-In-Chief will go a long way to motivate the players.

TAYA FC continues perfect run, BO MAG, G12 record wins

Meanwhile, matches counting for Match Day Two of the Wimbum Unity Tournament took place over the weekend. The games took place at the Ecole de Post football field.

In the first game on Saturday June 24, TAYA FC continued their perfect run in the tournament.

The title chasing side narrowly edged United Stars FC 1-0 in their second outing of the prestigious holiday football tournament.

Nshanji Stanley scored the solitary goal on 64 minutes as TAYA FC picked up their second victory. They now top top pool A with six points.

Debutants, Pumpkin Stars, who were thrashed 0-11 by TAYA FC on Match Day One, bounced back from the setback.

Mbatoh Wilson scored his team’s first goal before the half hour mark and put them on course for a famous win. But Wimbum Students Union, WISU FC, fought back and levelled through Kari Nilva Kayoh, shortly after the break.

Elsewhere, defending champions, BO MAG FC, had a comfortable 2-0 win over Nassara FC.

Ngong Germine Nfon opened the scoring as early as the 16th minute while Shey Terence sealed the win at the 73rd minute.

It was the first win for BO MAG United FC, who were held to a 1-1 stalemate on Match Day One by G12.

The latter also had a taste of their first win after defeating Young Swallows in a fascinating six-goal thriller on Sunday June 25.

Much of the damage was done in the first half as G12 netted three times without reply from their rivals.

Nsanyu Glein scored a first half brace while Owen Mbeh and former PWD of Bamenda star, Chem Herbert, were also on target.

Young Swallow, who had won their Match Day One fixture to Young Generations, managed to half the deficit through Mbumwe Desmond and Njeba Sifas.
