After calling for applications for Esu Chieftaincy stool: Kingmakers, Menchum Fons on SDO’s testes.

Traditional rulers of Menchum extraction and Kingmakers of Esu Fondom, have picked holes in the manner the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Menchum, Abdoulahi Aliou, wants to pick a new successor of the late Fon Kum Achou Kawzuh Albert, who was murdered in March 2022.

The civil administrator pricked the bile of the Menchum traditional custodians, when he (the SDO), in a June 8, 2023, communique, that was widely circulated on social media, called on persons in line of succession within the Esu Fondom to file in their candidacies before his office for consideration.

The letter, which immediately sparked controversy, has continued to attract widespread condemnation.

Reacting to the controversial letter via a statement issued Wednesday June 14, the traditional rulers of Menchum Division meeting under the aegis of the Menchum Council of Chiefs, reserved unkind words for the SDO.

The monarchs, in their outing, qualified the action of the SDO as not only provocative but a slap on the face and desecration of the customs and traditions of the Esu Fondom.

The royal fathers also insisted that the move “violates our sovereignty, our traditions, and customs by dictating the sacred affairs of our traditions”.

In what has been perceived as lecturing the civil administrator on issues of succession in Menchum, the traditional rulers wrote: “In Menchum, royal succession is determined by descent, sex, legitimacy, and bloodline governed solely by traditions and customs”.

They told the SDO to his face that: “Under Common Law, the administration plays an honorary role during the enthronement process”.
