Meme: Military raid leaves three Amba fighters dead in Mbonge.

A military raid in Njanga-Bafaw, a village in Mbonge Subdivision, Meme Division of the troubled South West Region, has left at least three separatist fighters dead.

Others are said to have been seriously injured following the raid. One of the injured fighters, The Guardian Post learned, is a certain 'General’ Lucifer.

The raid, which was carried out by soldiers of the Sixth Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR, with headquarters in Mambanda, Kumba, came after Amba fighters are said to have attacked a military convoy late last month.

The attack took place along the Kumba-Mbonge Road, in a locality known as Nganjo. The said attack had left two soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion dead.

Going by the Commander of the Sixth BIR Region in the South West, Colonel Danzabe Rene, the raid was aimed at liberating the population of the area from the hands of Amba fighters.

He said Amba fighters had taken up residence in a nearby bush, thereby terrorising the population of the area.

Colonel Danzabe disclosed that during the raid, an Amba camp was destroyed and over nine Kalashnikovs type guns seized.

Colonel Danzabe said other weapons recovered from the fighters included one M21 gun and a good number of Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.

Three separatist fighters were also killed while the leader of the group, one ‘General’ Lucifer, was seriously wounded.

The farming population of Bai Panya, New Town Barombi, Njanga-Bafaw, Bole Bakundu and Kwa-Kwa are said to have saluted the military intervention.

The farmers say they can now go to their farms in peace. They have hailed the military for their bravery in raiding the area.
