At 21 Days of Y’ello Care launch: MTN Cameroon commits to empower communities, persons living with disabilities.

The pledge was made during a charity gala, organised recently in Yaounde. The ceremony was to officially launch activities for the 2023 edition of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme.

The company said the actions will be done in partnership with the Ministries of Secondary Education and Social Affairs, as well as a range of other partners.

The 21 Days of Y'ello Care, worthy to be said, is a volunteer programme initiated by the MTN Group. 

Through the programme, MTN employees yearly, carry out social actions for 21 days to improve the well-being of communities, in its 22 Group subsidiaries around the world.

This year, the 17th edition of the programme is holding under the theme: “Empowerment of entrepreneurs to accelerate growth and job creation within communities”.

The ceremony was organised by MTN Cameroon. It was chaired by the Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irène Nguene, in the presence of the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MTN Cameroon, Colin Mukete, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng'ambi. The ceremony also brought together several personalities, partners and customers of MTN.

The double ceremony also saw the presentation of projects that are being carried out by MTN staff during the 21 Days of Y’ello Care. There also a fundraising to boost the campaign.

The General Manager of the Regulatory and Corporate Affairs of MTN Cameroon, Jean Melvin, said money raised will be used to construct and equip a workshop to produce ecological cobblestones made from plastic waste, at the Bonaberi Polyvalent High School in Douala.

He furthered that, they equally intend to construct and equip in all 10 regions of the country a training and co-working spaces dedicated to people living with disabilities. 

Melvin also mentioned the training of young girls from the Chamber of Commerce's Incubation Center in Douala. The activities of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care will end on June 21, 2023.

Guests at the charity gala reacted spontaneously to the appeal of MTN Cameroon. Millions were raised in cash and equipment. The CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng’ambi, on her part thanked guests for responding to their call.

Ng’ambi reassured that “we will carry out projects with strong impacts that will allow communities to develop and above all to gain autonomy. This is how together we contribute to the progress of Cameroon”.

MTN Cameroon, it should be said, is a subsidiary of the MTN Group. It is present in 20 countries around the world. MTN Cameroon is a provider of communication and electronic payment solutions present in Cameroon since February 2000.
