Fight against corruption: Special CONSUPE audit team to grill over 100 today!.

The individuals have been summoned by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of the Supreme State Audit Office, Mbah Acha Rose Fomundam. 

They were summoned through a press release Minister Mbah Acha issued May 24. The member of government in the release indicated that the individuals were summoned on the “very high instructions” of the Head of State, H.E Paul Biya. 

The concerned include promoters of Common Initiative Groups, CIGs, Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, Heads of Educational Establishments, Heads of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, SMEs, in the agricultural and livestock sectors as well as leaders of cultural and development associations.

The 106 persons are expected to be grilled by a CONSUPE special audit team to render account of the funds they benefited from government through the public treasury to finance their activities.

They are to appear before a special audit team of CONSUPE at door 127 of building ‘A’ of the Ministry of Finance. 

The said individuals, had through their various institutions, organisations and associations, submitted projects requesting government support through the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, MINEPAT. 

The said projects which were geared towards job creation and poverty alleviation, were validated and supported. The move comes to add to several other summons made by CONSUPE in recent times. It falls in line with government’s routine responsibility of regulating and controlling the use of public funds. 

The exercise, observers say, aims to ensure that funds which were allocated to the private entities were used for the purposes for which they were intended and not considered as pocket money by the promoters. 

They also say failure by the 106 officials to comply, might oblige the state to engage sanctions in total compliance with the regulations in force. The summons comes barely months after other officials were grilled by a team from CONSUPE.

The move is considered as part of the commitment of the state to ensure transparency in the management of public expenditure and part of the fulfilment of the option of the Head of State, H.E Paul Biya, to fight corruption in the country. 

To recall that the Head of State had in his end-of-year address last December 31, 2022, warned of a crackdown on those who pilfer public funds. 

“We must enhance public finance management governance by fighting corruption and embezzlement of public funds.  Therefore, all those guilty of financial malpractice or illicit enrichment will  face the  consequences  before the  competent courts,” President Biya had warned.
