Far North Region: Seven die, others injured in fresh Boko Haram attacks.

At least seven persons have been confirmed dead in fresh separate attacks by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in the Far North Region.

According to reports gathered, the first attack was launched at a mixed control post in Mora, Mayo-Sava Division, while the second took place in Zigague, in the Logone and Chari Division same night.

Both attacks are said to have occurred in the night of Monday breaking Tuesday May 30.

The Guardian Post gathered that in the attack on Mora, a Second Grade Police Inspector, Nana Nourou, and two Customs officers of the Mora Mobile Brigade, Dongmo Tawato Cédric and Ebongué Alphonse, were killed. A civilian, Lakana Calan, is also said to have died following the attack.

Meanwhile, Mbida Bikie Dominique, Customs officer on duty at the Mora Mobile Brigade, was injured. In the other attack in Zigague, two fighters of the Islamic sect were reportedly killed, while a soldier whose name we got as Guigolo Alain Obono Lejeuen, is said to have fallen arms in hand.

It is alleged that others were injured and properties destroyed in the attacks.

Going by sources in the Region, the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Maroua Regional Hospital mortuary while the injured Customs officer is responding to treatment at the Regional Hospital in Maroua.

Confirming the attacks, the Governor of Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakari, said: “Unfortunately, we had an attack on Mora”.

Following the recent attacks, the Governor of the Far North Region held a crisis meeting with the forces of defence and security.

While expressing government’s condolences to the deceased families, Governor Midjiyawa called for vigilance and collaboration between the population and the defence forces.

“We express our condolences to the families of the victims and call on the entire population to remain vigilant,” he stated, adding that “the defence and security forces have to control the cars, people and good to know who is who. By so doing, we would get the Boko Haram militants”.

It is worth noting that an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, was found at the incident site in Mora.
