Abidjan: CNPS wins big, steals show at Africa Social Security Forum.

The National Social Insurance Fund, popularly known by its French abbreviation, CNPS, stole the show by winning 10 prizes during the Africa Social Security Forum.

The event ended May 19 in Abidjan, capital of Ivory Coast. Code named: “Regional Security Forum for Africa”, the organisers, the International Social Security Association, ISSA, disclosed that the 10 prizes CNPS won brought to 46, number of awards the establishment has won since the global assessment body was established.

Therefore, members of the global organisation were in Abidjan to honour Cameroon’s CNPS for the feat. It was revealed that in the category for ISSA good practices in the sector, CNPS garnered 10 prizes distributed in varied sectoral order of achievement.

For building a library for children on the premises of its head office, to free up parents during working hours, the CNPS won certificates from different international donor partners and or collaborators.

CNPS also won a prize for establishing a data base and an exchange platform to ease the delivery of its services to insured clients and the general public.

Same was the case in the establishment’s effort to meet up with its social responsibility through the reduction of carbon footprint and the organisation of seminars to educate the public on emerging trends in managing carbon footprint.

For organising educative workshops on how to handle litigations from which workers had their professional capacities enhanced; particularly in handling cases at the courts of justice, other courts and administrative courts, and on the specificities of social legislation, CNPS was also honoured with a prize.

The Cameroon social security managers were also distinguished with six other certificates including the one they got as credit for making the addresses of all their managers both at the central and decentralized services available to all clients.

This greatly eased the pain of beneficiaries of services, especially old and disabled insured persons who hitherto had to make stannous, sometimes multiple trips to the central office to get similar services they now can get from their CNPS regional and divisional offices.

Then, there is the establishment of an athletics club for children of CNPS workers, and other Cameroonians which also attracted a prestigious award for the social security establishment from the international organisation.

Also, the yearly double identification system put in place in favour of beneficiaries aged 70 and over, also caught the curiosity of the international body, giving CNPS another prize.

The financing of operative expenses through proceeds from investments, the organisation of reading sessions and discussions for children around African tales also fetched CNPS a prize.

Even more, international curiosity was drawn to the public-private sector partnership established by CNPS that permitted the extension of social security coverage through the enrolment of voluntary insured persons in rural communities of the country.

Achievements for which the communication unit of CNPS boasted, in a communique it forwarded to the press, “We did good business in Cote d´Ivoire”.

The communique added that with the 43 prizes now in its kitty, Cameroon which has only one social security agency is ranked second in Africa after Morocco, as a country whose social security protection is supported and managed by seven funds.
