Veteran journalist, Michael Ndi, dies.

His demise was confirmed by close family members. It was gathered that Michael Ndi died at about 2:00 pm, in his native Ntundip village in Ndu Subdivision, Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region.

Michael Ndi retired from journalism practice some years ago and later took permanent abode in his native Ntundip village due to ill health. 

He had been battling for years with a strange ailment. As his health situation deteriorated, Michael Ndi lost his sight. 

He battled with several health complications before giving up the ghost yesterday.

Friends and colleagues have since his demise been paying homage to the man who contributed in no small way to the growth of the print media landscape in the North West Region and beyond.

A member of several journalism associations, Michael Ndi was an astute investigative journalist and a creative writer. 

The late Michael Ndi, described as a man with a very sharp pen, was also a well-known critical writer and a columnist. He ran for several years, a column known as ‘Wicked Whispers’ in The Star Newspaper. The satirical column was published on weekly basis.

The very discreet and jovial reporter represented several media organs in the North West Region throughout his days.

He began his career with the now defunct The Herald, where he served as a reporter for several years. 

He also worked as North West Bureau Chief for The Star and later The Guardian Post, where he occupied same position. 

He was also Publisher of the not-too-regular newspaper, The Concord. Besides being a journalist, Micheal Ndi was also author of several books. 

He authored the bestseller novel, “Naked Truth About That Ndu Genocide: The Tongue of an Eye-Witness”. 

The book, published in Onitsha, Nigeria in 1995, captured the Ndu genocide of the early 90s in which gendarmes are said to have killed several persons, including women and children. The book sold like hot cake in the 1990s.
